It is about 140 miles from here, near 3 hours.

When will you be there? What is the job? How much free time will you have to travel - as I'd be interested in meeting halfway.

Tentative plans are for the job to start Sept 13, I'm thinking I will have to be there Sept 9, I'm waiting on more info from the boss. I might have the 11th and 12th off, maybe?
Once the job starts it looks to be a 6 (days a week) 10s (hours a day) schedule.
Steam turbine at a paper mill.
That would be cool to meet up for a smoke or two.

Weekends are tough for me, and that one especially.

Let me know what your plans are, there is a great place in Green Bay, Titletown Cigar. It has a decent humidor and place to lounge and smoke. I am thinking that's about 2.5 hours from Escanaba too.

Escanaba is in the middle of nowhere, but it is beautiful.

It's a cool old historic area.
Diesel Kinevil and I rode up there from Iron Mountain for something to do.We were picking up a truck something,I don't recall now.
Point is,it was winter and the lake was frozen over. There were fishing shacks as far as you could see out on the ice.

Thanks for the info everyone, looks like a nice place. I'm probably only going to be there a couple weeks, hope to have some free time to explore..

Yes, it does. Usually, it doesn't happen though till the end of October.

So, given that information, you should be good.

That ROLF smiley at the end of the sentence makes me wonder about the snow not happening until the end of October.

So I guess you guys are saying I should take a jacket, I might run into Red Green, and my motel won't be far from the Possum Lodge.

JKH - I was just in Petosky for 10 days (well, a lake NEAR Petosky) and they have a nice shop there. Since you are in the UP, if you like cASINO'S (THERE ARE A ton IN mi) Kewadin is decent, and they usually have a great all you can eat crab leg buffet on Sat's (they used to) That is in Sault Ste Marie. Bay Mills is a little closer to you and still up that way. I would check them both out - as they both allow smoking indoors. (I spent a LOT of time in SSM )

Good luck - The UP is really cool and scenic, especially when the colors start changing. BTW, if they call for "flurries (snow), flurries usually equals 6 inches or more.

The UP is great. We've gotten "flurries" that nearly snowed us in on our snowmobile trips. Don't forget to try a Pasty.

Escanaba? It's not the end of the Earth, but you can see it from there.

Oh, and be sure to watch the movie "Escanaba in da Moonlight." Or at least the first 30 minutes. Very funny stuff. If you're a Yooper who's never shot a buck, well..., you just ain't a Yooper.

Just found this on the internet about Escanaba. It's in the banana belt, so you'll be fine. ;D

Quote:
Being in the U.P.'s "banana belt" helped shipping and farming, too. Shielded from Lake Superior blizzards, the area gets an average annual snowfall of just 50 inches, a fourth of what's usual in many northern Lake Superior locales.

First snow down here in Madison was the end of October...!

Knowing WI and our northern climate, anything can happen!
