Re: What's your favorite mix for a Black and Tan?
Why did I know this was started by a Canadian?
It's Harp and Guinness p.s. No matter how you spell "Vaughan", you still live in Woodbridge.

There are suitable modifications, but a black and tan is bass and guinness. Period.

Re: What's your favorite mix for a Black and Tan?
harp and guinness is a half and half. a black and tan is either guinness and bass or guinness and "smiddicks" I prefer the bass as it has some hops to it as opposed to smithwicks which is just malty.

Re: What's your favorite mix for a Black and Tan?
I used to make them with Harp or Bass under Guinness and now I use Smithwicks on the bottom . However though I will be getting some Boddingtons to try this out with Guinness as both come in pints . Bass would probably be the the original as I have a brass Bass brolly for pouring the Black and Tans with . Bass Ale is embossed right in the brolly and it was free over the internet a while back .

Re: What's your favorite mix for a Black and Tan?
I gave the Boddingtons and Guinness a try over the weekend . Real good but it did not stay separate for more then a few minutes . I'm guessing because both beers are kind of thick or of the same viscosity , if that makes any sense at all . I do still like it better with Bass , SmithWicks or Harp . i also tyied a Dirty Hoe this weekend . 3/4 glass of Hoegaarden and 1/4 glass Lambic raspberry . A little on the sweet side and would definitely be better in the spring and summer .

I used to really enjoy Young's Double Chocolate Stout over New River pale ale....but then they quit making New River pale ale. I need to find a replacement for it...just haven't gotten around to it.

Guinness and Smithwicks .... imagine, putting a British beer or a lager in a black and tan ... blasphemy.
