Re: Brick Oven Build (Pic heavy)
I've finally finished with the oven construction.
Now I just have to finish the skim coat and brick veneer on the stand, do a series of curing fires. Once I'm done with that, I can paint the oven....

Installed the landing in the front of the oven opening.
This will make the granite sit flush and make it easier to get food in and out.

Re: Brick Oven Build (Pic heavy)
Busy weekend here.
I got a lot of work done.
Crawling into the oven to clean and point the joints took way longer than I expected Thursday, so I wasn't able to actually build until Friday evening...

Re: Another tragedy strikes CA
Today is Mac's birthday.
I still think about him and laugh at the good times often.
Tearing up now thinking about him, and wishing I could reach out and call him to wish him a happy birthday.
And...

Re: Brick Oven Build (Pic heavy)
Yes, it's for wood storage.
The bottom is 7 feet long. I segmented it and left it open on both ends so I wouldn't have to crawl in to get at the wood stored in the back.
I have to lay...

Re: Brick Oven Build (Pic heavy)
Got some work in on Saturday, but Sunday was a washout with rain, so I haven't finished the dome yet.
It was a little slow going as the walls got steeper because the bricks want to fall in.
I had...

Re: Brick Oven Build (Pic heavy)
You might want to stay away from the pretzels.
Usually the handle breaks, and they fall all over the floor.
We pick them up, put the box in front of Roger, and merrily giggle as he stuffs his pie...

Re: Mlb 2020
I'm having a hard time getting into the season.
Watched probably 40% of the Yankee games so far, and only a handful from around the league.
That's a huge reduction for me.
The baseball has been...

Re: Brick Oven Build (Pic heavy)
Thanks, guys.
Thanks for all your help!!

Brick Oven Build (Pic heavy)
I'm currently attempting to build a brick oven in my yard.
Currently 5 weeks in, and would say I'm 75% done with the project.
There's a lot of waiting for things to dry and cure in between steps,...

Re: Dry aging beef?
Not sure about the brand of bag that Ben was using, but the bags I use want the meat to be wet.
The juice in the cryovac bag helps the dry aging bag adhere to the piece of meat, creating the bond...

Missed my target date by a few days. Trimmed up late last night after day 44.
Not nearly as much loss as I was expecting. I lost all of the fat cap on the flat side, so I opted to sous vide rather...
