Crawl in hole and hide
Aaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!
The last week has been a complete exhausting nightmare! Some of you may have read the thread "Mr. and Mrs. Whodeyschenk and future baby Schenk" So, now that my 8 month pregnant wife is home resting after her surgery. One of our Boston Terriers throws us another bone. We usually crate Capone when we aren't home, and our older boston Mugsy runs free in the house. Yesterday I come home from work, walk up to his crate to find out he pooped in his crate (which he never does), and next to that was vomit. I let him out, clean everything up, and BAM! he vomits on the floor. I move him to the kitchen where he proceeds to vomit 4 more times, all just mucus & bile. I took away his food and water as one is supposed to and walked over to see my neighbor who is a vet (alas, not home) I come back home to the most wretched stench in the house, look in the kitchen, he vomited again, but this time it was an entire stomach full of blood!!! Not just a little mixed in with mucus and saliva, 100% blood!!! Throughout this entire ordeal Capone seems to act normal, not lethargic at all. I run upstairs and tell my recovering in bed wife that I'm taking him to emergency. (lets cut this short) $90 to set foot in the emergency vet! they check him out, they name some 9 syllable name that he probably has... aka - the poor guy is stressed out after my wife went through surgery and knows something is wrong. they say they want to keep him overnight...write up an estimate. Low end $600!!!!! High end $800!!!! you're out of your freaking mind....room and board, hydration, and meds, that was all! Not even an option for us to pay for that after the wife just going through emergency surgery to remove her ovary, and then a birth due in the next 4 weeks. Give me option #2 where I take him home tonight! Low end $280 High end $350 Still not an option, you gotta throw me a bone and do better. they basically give him and anti-nausea shot, something else, and some antibiotics to take home along with a diet to keep him on to calm his stomach. needless to say, the poor little guy is still acting himself, he slept through the night with no vomiting, he had some blood oozing from his rear end this morning which they said he would. Other than that we're keeping a close watch on him the next day or 2. I walked out of the ER with a bill of $138. What else can happen to our little family??? I am emotionally and physically spent. Ready to crawl in a hole and hide. Taking the wife to the doctor today, they might be removing the stitches in her 5" incision. Thanks for reading me vent

Re: Crawl in hole and hide
Dan, I need that so badly! However, Tracy is still in quite a bit of pain, and since I'll be gone most of Saturday for the "diaper party" I'm going to stay home and keep her company / take care of her & keep an eye on Capone. I will however see you at Waffles house on Saturday

Re: Crawl in hole and hide
I can relate to you with the pet issues and the wifes surgery, but not the coming of a child. My wife has been recovering from shoulder surgery since July of last year and was finally fully released yesterday. We have had every issue you can imagine with our Bulldog, we calculate around $10,000 so far in specialist fees and meds. We spend $200 a month on her regular meds if she is healthy and that multiplies big time if she gets sick or has an allergic reaction. We also have to get blood work done every few months and have her liver values read. It is a nightmare but worth what we get out of our bully, a companion, a family member. Good luck in all of this and know it can always get worse but eventually it will get better!
