Edgestar
Question,
Is the edgestar suppose to run constantly? I have another 12 bottle wine cooler that runs for about 5 minutes then shuts down for about 20-25 minutes and the kicks back on. My edgestar just runs runs runs, It doesn't matter if it is 70 or 77 in my house sametjing just constantly running. Do I have an issue or is this normal? Thanks ahead of time for the help! Dan |

Re: Edgestar
Hmmm, you know until now I never thought about it. Maybe someone else has noticed and will chime in. In the meantime I will try to keep an eye on mine. My house btw is at best 78.

Re: Edgestar
My Edgestar 28 runs a good bit but not all the time. The 28 bottle Thermo-electric units are at the maximum limit of Thermo cooling capacity and are going to run more than a smaller one to maintain temps in the summer months. 78 outside to 66 in the unit is a pretty big job for a 28 bottle Thermo. Mine does hold 65-66 very well though even when the house is a little warm when I come home in the afternoon.
RH in my unit holds 64-66 most of the time but does spike up or down every now and then. I have found that if I cover the front of the unit with a blanket and it holds much better temp and humidity. I am using 2.5 lbs of beads in 1/2 pound bags. And of course, make sure you plugged the hole! |

Re: Edgestar
Is the drain plugged? Sounds like it isn't if the rH is above 65 unless your hygros are off. Are they callibrated?

Re: Edgestar
1.5 lbs of 65 beads, plugged hole, ambient temperature 78, temperature inside pretty darn consistent 60 (highest temp setting), RH swings from 65-70. I'll probably add another pound of beads next month. and I'm pretty sure it runs most of the time.
what matters is my cigars are great! |

Re: Edgestar
I have had two in the past two day split 1-2 inches up I still smoke them just kind of annoying, I am hoping it is just the cigars and not cause of the temp inside the cooler.

Re: Edgestar
On mine the fan runs 24-7 but the cooling unit dosent kick in until there is a temp swing. I also have mine on its highest setting and it stays between 62 and 64 degrees. Its been a very humid this summer here in PA and my Edgestar creped up to 70% rh because I am in it sevral times a day. So I put in a can of damp rid for a few days and now I am right back at 65%

Re: Edgestar
I would guess maybe it has a bad thermostat, staying that cold and running all the time. I am looking at 65degrees/65% on mine right now and not running.

Re: Edgestar
Ok edgestar tech said that the fans are suppose to run constantly, but the cooling unit should only kick on if and when it needs to. He also said that hold at 60 is normal and fine for the highest setting, i don't why mine at the highest setting is cooler that everyone else s, weird.

Re: Edgestar
I wouldn't say it is higher. Mine is anywhere from 62-66 degrees inside at the highest setting and my house is never any cooler than 78-79 degrees.

Re: Edgestar
I found that the highest setting was too cool for my tastes and I didn't like listening to the fans run 24/7 so I just bought one of those cheap analog light switch timers to plug it into. I have it set to run for 15 minutes out of every hour which keeps it just where I want it this time of year. In the winter I readjust it so it runs even less.

Re: Edgestar
Mine's been running like that for just over a year now with no problems. Just make sure you get one that has a 24-hour clock on the front and the ability to set as many on/offs as you want. I went with an analog over a digital so I don't have to worry about resetting it if the power goes out.
