Default Are you Self Employed or Own a Business?

Let's hear about it.

My Brothers and I own a moderately large trash hauling business outside of Wash.D.C.

Please no questions about "The Family"

Yep, I'm one of those over worked and under paid self employed types.
I've been a custom saddle, Tack, Gunleather Maker for 23 years.
As difficult as it can be at times I wouldn't have it any other way.

Work for my brother-in-law design and build dry-offset printing presses. Look here at a really bad web page if interested.

Thread jack on.

As the only son of a poor immigrant sharecropper I continue in the family tradition of working with my hands and living off the land. Typing counts as working with your hands doesn't it?

My partners and I have a logistics business. We specialize in LTL freight, rating and routing technology, payables along with web based reporting and decision support... ummm .. more simply, we do freight stuff without owning any trucks.

In another life I used to work in logistics for a containerized freight company (APL) for 15 years. This was back when "logistics" was a new term in the transportation world. Got involved in the JIT of the auto industry, stack trains etc... Fun stuff!!

As a Realtor I'm considered an independent contractor. With the economy in the can it's become a much harder job, but I wouldn't have it any other way. I'm not the kind of guy who could sit behind a desk all day. I really enjoy working with people and seeing how excited they can get when they buy their new home.

So I guess your answer to the question would be: "No"

My wife and I have been in the hair cutting business for 23 years, running a small chain of hair salons in L.A. But we've gradually scaled down the business over the past few years after becoming debt free.

Finance consulting here, mostly because I need steady income I still work as the accounting of a high end furniture store.

It's still something that makes me very proud and I like to think I do good.

I mostly cater to college students and other youths in small businesses.

I work in my family's Italian Bakery. We have been in business since 1947 (grandfather started it when he came from Italy), and have since expanded to three stores. We also own a gourmet Italian market/ sausage manufacturing.

I have degrees in finance and accounting, but after the 9/11 layoffs went back to work for my family.

Challenging at times, but rewarding.

Moe's creations are just fantastic!! Was lucky enough to take the leftovers home from the HERF. Mitch had the chocolate moose last night and said he wants his birthday cake made like that!

Chocolate covered cannola OMG!

The best was at the HERF when my friend John was eating an eclair with fruit on it and he was going on and on how good it was. He turns to Moe and asks "what do you call this thing?" Moe says, "an eclair with fruit on it".
