It's a boy cigars?
I'm sure this has been discussed but search won't allow me to use "a" or "it's".
My BIL and his wife are at the last step of a very long journey to adopt their baby. There's a bunch of cigar smokers in the family and I want to do this for him. What does everyone recommend? I'm looking for quantity over quality at this point (I'll bust out the good stuff for the real cigar smokers). Liking the R&J Reserva Real in the tubes but I'm leaning toward the Fuente "It's a Boy" Brevas, that is more what I want to spend (I'll need at least 50 cigars, might even go for 4 boxes) but I can't seem to find a picture of the actual cigar. Anyone have one they can snap a shot of? The box looks good though. Any other suggestions? Custom bands are out, they will be back on Saturday... Thanks in advance.

Andrew,
I bought "It's a boy" stickers and put them on tubos. You can find them here http://www.save-on-crafts.com/itsboy.html. |

These are for girls but you get the idea.
Cuesta-Rey (made by Fuente) is a good, less expensive alternative. They are just a bit smaller than the Fuente's.

Re: It's a boy cigars?
Last time I was in Florida I went to a B&M (Coronado I think) I saw they were doing Laser identification on the cigar itself. The guy there told me that it was not altering the taste of the cigar and that they could do anything you requested letter, numbers...
What it does is that change the color of the wrapper enabling you to choose any brand you wish and make it a It's a boy or girl or wedding or whatever cigar. Frenchie

Corona cigar used to offer laser engraving at a rather reasonable price. I don't know if they still do or not though. They can do most standard typeset fonts and sizes along with artistic letters and custom two-color artwork to an extent. As you said, it does not affect the flavor of the cigar nor the integrity of the wrapper. The Oliva Master Blends I and II used this laser engraving process for the "tattoo" found just below the band. Here is a photo of a pair of birth announcement cigars engraved by Corona Cigars and sent to me by a BOTL from another board. (I digitally obscured the last name and birth dates for privacy concerns.) |

Re: It's a boy cigars?
Just got off of the phone with Corona cigar, to be able to laser cigar engrave cigars, you have to license it from the patent holder and they are no longer licensing the process.
Phooey. I actually wanted to get some cigars laser engraved for someone. Now I have to find a new engraver and see what they charge. Corona was very reasonable and they would use any cigar you wanted, some of the places I'm finding right now will only engrave their unknown house brand cigars. Just lovely. If I wanted an engraved dog turd, I'd pick one up off the lawn and engrave it with a pen knife and save a few bucks. |

I need those, then the next one has to be a boy. Right?

Re: It's a boy cigars?
This is an old thread, but I was recently in a similar spot...
Since we didn't know the sex ahead of time I ended up going with a dozen or so of an unbanded Fuente factor second belicoso and buying custom "It's a Boy" and "It's a Girl" bands from Etsy. I gave out 7 or 8, smoked a couple outside the hospital with friends, and I've stuck two away in the Humi, one to smoke on Stella's 1st birthday and another to smoke on her 18th birthday. If we'd known the sex and I was going for quantity, the Factory Throwout #59... bundles of 20 can be had under $20 any day of the week, and they're not a bad smoke (I've had the sweet version without boy/girl branding and it's a fully enjoyable $1 smoke). If I'd known the sex and looking for higher quality but still serving a mixed or beginner smoker crowd, I'd probably go for the Baccarat. EDIT: Nevermind on the Baccarats... looks like only the box is marked boy/girl, no boy/girl markings on the bands or celo... |

If they're real cigar smokers, My Father is always an appropriate option!

Re: It's a boy cigars?
I customized mailing labels (30 to a sheet) with what I wanted on it. Looked something like this:
William Jacob Smith April 4, 2012 22" - 7lbs 2oz These labels can be put on whatever cigar you choose. Todd

Re: It's a boy cigars?
I guy I know at my B&M had a grandson not too long ago, and to celebrate, he bought a box of MBIIIs and taped blue ribbons on the foot of each one, similar to an Anejo. I thought it was pretty classy, and it's a good last-minute effort. Now, I wouldn't just go and hand out MBIIIs to Uncle Joe-Bob who doesn't even know how to light a cigar, but one could do something similar and give them out to cigar insiders.

Re: It's a boy cigars?
Hey...cool to see this get bumped. The Fuentes were a hit with the non-regular cigar smokers and the handful of regular smokers enjoyed the other high end smokes we had on hand. They are adopting again and I'll get another two boxes for sure.
