Advice for a Newbie
Hello Cigar Asylum!
I am new to the art of cigar smoking and was wondering if you could shed some light on a few issues for me? 1) I have a humidor, I seasoned it, bought 3 bovida packs to keep it humid and my hygrometer reads 75 degrees / 60%. I thought I did everything correctly, yet I am not sure that the above numbers are good thing. Can someone help me out? 2) I have been enjoying mild cigars. I have tried Avo, Macanudo, Jenuwine, etc. Can anyone suggest any others that might be good? I appreciate it. Sleeved613 |

60% humidity is fine. Some people like 'em a bit dryer even, but 60% is definitely fine. As for mild cigars, I don't have too many recommendations, but Arturo Fuente 858's are pretty good, especially in the sun grown wrapper. Arturo Fuente Hemingway series is also a good smoke.

Welcome to the Asylum!
Best advice I can give... Try many different kinds of cigars. Mild is a good start but think about it like food or drink. Variety is the spice of life!!!

Re: Advice for a Newbie
Welcome to the asylum. From what I recall there were a bunch of Rocky Patels that were a really good mild to medium stick, smoking a lot of those back in the day. Some of the bigger websites that sell samplers might be a good start, buying a sampler let's you try a wide range of sticks without paying a lot of money.
Oh and you should post in the new members thread introducing yourself there, more people will see it unless Peter just moves this one. |

Is your hygrometer digital, and have you calibrated it?

Holts just sent an email for a 24 flash sale of Rocky Patel Connecticuts, 20 cigars starting at $39.99. I've never had these, so cant comment on how they taste, but Connecticut wrapped cigars tend to be on the milder side.

Re: Advice for a Newbie
Which Jenuwine store did you go to, Troy or Sterling Heights? If Troy, go a little further north on Rochester road to a Wild Bill's. Smaller store, but better prices. Lots of deals and the older guy behind the counter can point you to cigars you may like. Try their Mi Julia line. It's not very strong.

Lots of good info in the stickies at the top of each sub-forum. This one is a personal favorite:
How to Freeze and the Science behind it. I freeze every single cigar I receive and have for years. |

Welcome neighbor! If you're wanting to try something light in the RP line try the Edge Lite.

Re: Advice for a Newbie
Welcome!!!! Fill up your humidor and the humidity will stabilize. I suspect you have too much unoccupied space. PM me your address and I can send you a humidor guide I picked up that I don't need as my set up is Sofa King We Todd Did but works for me I guess????
