Default Extended Pipes

I have several shorter pipes now, but am thinking of buying another meerschaum pipe. The site I'm looking at allows you to add one or two clay extensions onto the pipe when they make it. Does anyone here smoke longer pipes? I'm wondering if it will cut down on tongue bite when smoking stronger tobaccos?

In theory the longer stem allows the smoke a greater distance to travle which in turn will provide a cooler smoke. So in theory you would get less tongue bite with the cooler smoke provided. With a 6 year old daughter and a 2 year old chocolate lab always running around the house I wouldnt want a longer churchwarden style pipe to get broken so I dont own any as of now.

i didn't think of that. it says it comes in a fitted case to protect it but yeah i can imagine it breaking pretty easily.
