Default My 2nd Flight

I'm absolutely loving it. Anyone else here fly helicopters? I hate to talk blasphemy, but if I had to choose cigars or this...

FL is a beautiful place to train.

We flew down past the Boynton inlet, turned back north to the Lake Worth pier and then shot back Southwest to Lantana.

It's a blast! I'm excited that it has finally become a reality. Took months to get to this point, mainly due to my "color-deficiency."

I used to play Jane's Longbow all the time, so the concept of collective and cyclic plus rudder pedals is
without a doubt in my head and secure. But strapping in to the real thing and not crashing on takeoff is a lot
different I am sure.

What's your cruising speed in one of those? I have a single engine pilot's license, although I haven't flown in around 15 years now. I think the Cessna's and Cherokees I flew were around 100 knots. Then when I'd go for a ride in an Arrow, it's amazing how much faster that thing was.

Oh I've played my fair share of flight sims. I got into the cockpit and was all over the damn place. They say learning how to hover is like learning how to ride a unicycle on a basketball hahaha

Having a familiarization with the controls definitely helps, but making them do what you want is the hard part lol

In these little R22's we cruise at about 75-80kts. 60kts is a good number right now for most maneuvers.

Sounds about right for the Cessnas as I think that's where we were when I flew with my buddy.

I believe it. Every input in one seems to require a change in every other input. It's like shooting a bird
with a multi-shot camera when you are fully zoomed in. The camera shoots until your mempry card is full,
so that's no problem. But you are fully zoomed in, AND there is enough lag in your viewfinder that everytime
you try to move the camera to keep the bird centered, you end up WAY over-correcting and then there is no
bird in the field of view, so you try to correct for that and it just keeps getting worse. The only
way to get it back is to stop shooting and re-frame. Of course in a chopper, you can't just 'stop shooting'
because you are piloting a completely unstable aircraft. You can't just glide your way out of it.

Haha yeah I've always loved them. Nothing beats the sound of a Huey on approach.
