Scariest Thing I've Ever Seen
I saw this on another forum and agree with the poster. Whatever these guys get paid, it's not enough. Can you imagine the first time you ever had to climb 1/3 of a mile into the air?

Re: Scariest Thiing I've Ever Seen
Yes, these guys are absolutely bananas. Beyond just the dangers of the height they have to deal with serious RF.

Re: Scariest Thiing I've Ever Seen
No way in the world that I would do it... but I know a family that has a business that paints towers like that. All 5 male members of the family do it and of course they make REALLY good money. I've always wondered what kind of insurance they have to pay?

Re: Scariest Thiing I've Ever Seen
No way I would be stupid enough to think I should climb that without being attached because it's faster. "If I can do it faster I can make the company more money, why strap in?" Doesn't make much sense to me, I'd take all the time I could

If that were in the US, there is no way he'd be allowed to go up without the safety gear on 100% of the time.

I believe it was in the US. They mentioned OSHA being ok with them not strapping in because it takes more time and is more tiring.

Re: Scariest Thiing I've Ever Seen
There are state by state reg's that dictate rest time and having fall protection while in a stationary work position but as far as I know it is not required to climb on rope.

scary stuff for certain!
I tend to find free climbing a bit intimidating as well http://video.google.com/videoplay?do...0560824977185#

Re: Scariest Thiing I've Ever Seen
Met a number of tower climbers when I was in radio. They are a different lot but for the money they make, if I were physically able, I wouldn't mind doing it. The highest tower I climbed was 250ft.
