Default Tea and Cigars

How do you guys pair your stogies with tea? Lately I have been going with an Oolong or gunpowder green tea paired with mostly Nicaraguan Corojo cigars.

My daughter got some Teavana tea's (I know waaaay over priced) but the white chai mix she got pairs well with a good strong cigar. It really brings out the character.

To my mind, a cigar will overpower most teas out there. The exceptions being blacks and Sheng or Shu pu-erh. This is the one occasion I'll use no cream or sugar for a "breakfast" tea (english, Irish, etc). To me, those types work best of all.

I smoke cigars with different black teas at least once a week. My favorite right now is a Black Currant Tea from Takashimaya in New York City. It has a VERY opus flavor to it.

I like Twinings Irish Breakfast or Bigelow's Constant Comment with a medium cigar but move to alcohol when I move to a medium/full cigar.

I tend to stick to a good black or spiced tea with no sugar or cream when pairing as of late

I have very little experience with NCs. With that said, I use a rule of thumb with my tea/cigar selections. With fuller bodied cigars I go will fuller bodied teas (Pu-erh with cigars like Upmann Connie 1's, Partagas 898vs etc). I like oolongs with lighter bodied cigars like LGC MdO 3/4's.

I used to drink Mate all the time but it rarely paired well until I tried the Teavana MateVana which had an almost cake like taste that seemed to pair very well with smokes. At the time my wife's friend worked there and we got a healthy discount but no longer. Lately the only tea I drink is iced tea which goes with every cigar.

What exactly are "diet" teas? Are these decafinated or what? I wasn't aware that tea leaves added any calories to hot water.

Lipton cold brewed iced tea with Splenda. But hey, I'm Texan, what do I know about tea?

Hmmm I didn't even know people drink tea with cigars, thanks for the thread. I might have to give some a shot. Currently I enjoy coffee with some cigars, in fact sometimes a mocha or coffee hint in a cigar makes me crave a cup of coffee.

Glad I found these pairing recommendations. I'm smoking a Falco Invicta with a cup of green chai. My first cigar and tea ever. The two compliment each other beautifully. I can't wait to try the pairings mentioned here. Thanks all!
