Is 60/61 degrees acceptable?
Hey fellas,
I recently received an Edgestar 28-bottle wine cooler and am in the process of converting it to a humidor thanks to Chas! After a few days of it being plugged in, it has stabilized at 60/61 degrees. I have cranked on the knob towards the warmest level but that's it. I have 5 empty cigar boxes and beads in there. I bought a timer at someone's recommendation but the RH level drastically drops when the cooler turns on so I have it constantly running to see what happens. I can set it to come on for 15 minutes but that is almost too long. So is that temperature fine for long time storage and for smoking cigars now? I have read that is slows the aging but should be fine, but just wanted to see what opinions are out there... omputer: |

In the winter my coolers in the basement get down into the low 60's and even very high 50's regularly and I've had no ill effects.

Opininions are certainly available. I have experimented and questioned experienced cigar folks over the years and from that my opinion is that 60 is just fine. Only problem might be that it is a little harder to keep the humidity up with lower temps but you can deal with that easy enough.

Lower temps are fine, in fact people even freeze cigars, although I wouldn't recommend it unless you have to for the dreaded beetles. 60 is fine.
