Default Just Venting....USPS Priority Mail

Out went the package Priority Mail last Tuesday, Washington State to Texas. Makes me feel all warm & fuzzy to check the DC and continue to see that the Post Office accepted my package on the Dec. 15th.........and?

When are they ever going to offer a real tracking system?

Sorry John, it is a delivery confirmation service, not a tracking service. I often have packaged show as just dropped off until they arrive at the destination and even then (if they didn't scan it) it sometimes never gets updated.

I've experienced this same sort of thing with other shippers as well.

Which is why I pay my postage online and get the DC for free - cuz it ain't worth .

But John's question is still valid. When will the USPS provide a tracking service?

When people are willing to pay for it. Don't think that is going to happen any time soon.

Maybe after they figure out how to charge postage for e-mail? I don't see them adding services anytime soon.

Seems like some branches track better than others.
Seven different entries on the progress of this package sent out last Friday.

Your correct as to the DC shuffle but the same day I also sent a package to "stitch" and on the PO site using the DC# it showed La Conner, WA to Federal Way, Wa, to the PO in Eager, AZ & finally that it was delivered.

Life will go on & it will most likely show up but I'm losing what little Xmas spirit is left in me.

They do provide tracking for a cost. Last time I checked, only USPS Express (their version of overnight service) is the only one with true tracking. The Express service is much more expensive. It also requires that you have the receiver to sign (you can opt out, but then you lose any insurance on it).

My luck with DC info seems to vary by which local post office I use to start. If it's downtown Richmond near my office, the DC info doesn't show up until after the package is delivered, if at all. If I use the one close to my home, I get much more detailed info. Not sure if the two correlate 100% of the time, but it seems that way.

Thus the name "delivery confirmation", Gerard...any other info prior to delivery is a unpaid bonus.

USPS - that means it is a government entity. What did you expect, service like provided in the public sector where real people have to offer a real product or they'll go find another product? Did you expect Fed Ex? UPS?

(sorry, momentary rant there)
