Default J. Geils, Longtime Leader of The J. Geils Band, Dies at 71

Quote:
Guitarist J. Geils, born John Warren Geils Jr., has reportedly died. He was 71.

WCVB-TV Boston reports Geils was found dead in his Groton, Massachusetts, home. He had lived in the town for 35 years.

As leader of The J. Geils Band, the group had 17 songs on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, including 10 top 40-charting hits. The band's biggest single, "Centerfold," spent six weeks at No. 1 and "Freeze-Frame" peaked at No. 4.
May He Rest In Peace.

Death stinks. PU

Rest in peace, John.

John's namesake band released their first album in 1970. Their first big hit, "Love Stinks" came in 1980, and they finally scored a number one with "Centerfold" in 1981. The album it came from, "Freeze Frame," was also number one for 4 weeks, and stayed on the charts for 70 weeks.

Just to give you an idea how the big band was in the early '80s -- the Eagles, U2 and Billy Joel all opened for J. Geils on the road.

Sad news. I saw them once in the spring of 1971, just as they were breaking out big. Great show, and their first few albums were outstanding.

Rest in peace, sir.

I remember buying his Full House LP back in the 70s and the First I Look at the Purse track. RIP J. Geils
