Default Coffee obsession

I've got a new coffee tomorrow, then 7 more untried that I need to roast and cup. Plus, SM has 3 more I'd like to get.
I used to be this way with cigars, but those days are done. I get a whole pound of coffee for the price of 1 cigar. That's my coffee obsession

I am stuck in the middle of both worlds, and love it.
Nothing goes better with a cigar than a nice cup of home roast!

Coffee is certainly cheaper, and with the small amount of work it takes to roast it, I don't know if I can ever have regular store bought coffee again. Starbucks tastes absolutely aweful now and I've turned my Keurig on maybe 3 times in the past month.

I usually smoke a cigar while I roast outside.

It's funny how 'with a little help from your friends' you can go from buying beans 1lb at a time, to 10-15lbs at a time... I'm excited to have new beans in from Klatch & will be firing up the Behmor this weekend.

Used to buy every new cigar that came around, had to try. But it was what it was. With coffee, it's not only cheaper, but I control the roast, so a little lighter, darker, I can have.

Ain't that the truth. The good news is, often I can trade fresh roast for those cigar I want to try.
Good on ya. I'm glad you got that Behmor working well for ya

I need to order some more coffee. The nice thing is I feel fine spending my wifes money on coffee but not on cigars. Cigars are a luxury in her eyes, and coffee is like food. She doesn't drink coffee but I think because it doesn't stink like my cigars it is okay.

My son just got a job at our local roaster. Working as a barista and "helping out" with the roasting. "Helping" means hauling bags of green and packaging pounds of roast and occasionally being asked for an opinion on new roasts. I'm hoping for lots of goodies coming my way soon as he brings home samples of what's being tried.
I've been going back and forth about whether this is something I want to try at home. Maybe when the weather warms up a bit I'll see about getting some entry level equipment and giving it a shot. This really needs to be done outdoors or with a robust exhaust system right?

I prefer to do it in my garage more for the sound than the smell. I use a cheaper Nesco roaster and with my exhaust fan on my stove on it isnt bad indoors. It really depends on your roaster.

Right, outside or I do a lot of roasting in the garage, with doors open.
Hope that all works out for ya. Only thing better than fresh roasted, is free fresh roasted

I think it matters where you are on the slope to consider it cheaper . Commercial 1kg roaster in the garage, 4 burr grinders, espresso machine soon to be upgraded to a commercial machine, many different brew machines, 235lbs of greens stored in the basement, and I still need a moisture meter, finish my data logger for the roaster, and wouldn't mind a refractometer to zero in on the perfect extractions.

LOL, well OCD has everything to do with making excellent coffee, from the search from the farm to the roaster to the brewer, and i have the ultimate control to have the best of the best. Nothing like a ten year old aged CC (of course I aged those myself) to go with any part of the coffee OCD.
