Best Beef Jerky
Hey guys!! So I went last night with my dad to 7-11 here in NJ and he bought a pack of Jack Link's "Sweet & Spicy Thai" jerky. He LOVES beef jerky, but last night it was really tough and he ended up just throwing it out after spending $7.00 on a small bag!! For Father's Day I really want to pick him up some REALLY GOOD jerky! Can some BOTL point me in the right direction? I myself love beef jerky, but don't know much about the good stuff!!
Thanks! |

Best Beef jerky I know of is Troyer's beef jerky.. You can find it on several different sites.. it's made by the Amish and it's the bomb!! I tend to enjoy the mild but others enjoy the other flavors.. If you have him try it tell me what he thinks!! Oh, forgot to mention I'm no way associated with this company just love their product.

A cigar / jerky pass? If we throw in bourbon with that, I may think i've died and gone to heaven.

Re: Best Beef Jerky
What cut of beef is used for jerky and does anyone have a good site that has instructions on it? I got a dehydrator to make jerky but have yet to use it.

PM coming to Darrell, and I would also suggest making your own. for a 45 dollar de-hydrator, you can basically pay for the unit the first batch. Visit the market on Sunday mornings and get reduced meat and you are really hitting it. Any kind of salty sauce, soy sauce, Dale's...dunk it and drape it and in about 6-8 hours you are eating the best jerky you ever made. None of that mouth curdling feeling of having eaten far too much salt and nitrates.

Re: Best Beef Jerky
Instructions? haha. Cut up you meat into 1/4 inch thick planks if it WILL cut into such pieces, any shape is fine tho, dunk it or soak it, depending on how much salty taste you want, and run your dehy on the highest setting for the first hour to make sure that bacteria does not grow. Once the meat has begun to dry on the outside 1 to 1.5 hrs), you are good to use whatever temp you want. If you do not get Dale's out west, any kind of soy sauce or mix a little soy sauce with your favorite BBQ sauce and dip the raw cuts into that. once you lay it out on the trays, shake or grind some coarse black pepper onto it, never salt, since your sauce is salty, some garlic powder is also good. I have learned over the last few years that I like a mix of salty sauce and BBQ sauce best.

Re: Best Beef Jerky
Last week we worked at a location that drove us through some really small WI farm towns. Saw a sign for a slaughter house that had a store front butcher shop. We just had to stop and check it out. Man did it smell awesome in there and the steaks looked delicious and were really cheap. If i wasn't so far from home I would have picked a few up. Anways, we did pick up some of their beef jerky and it was the best beef jerky I've ever tasted
