More Humi Goodness
We jumped in with both feet today and milled down a bunch of wood from rough cut (and it was rough cut)..so that we can clear the path to make 'em in to humidors over the upcoming week.... Gonna have some real beauties come out of this batch... Walnut seems to be the flavor of the day...
We're making a couple of Walnut humidors.... and ironically, I had two people from different sides of the country order the Wormy Maple & Walnut combination.... And just because we had the wood... we're making a Zebra Wood and Walnut.... This is gonna be a fun week.... And here's a picture of Bruce (on the right) and I (on the left) in the shop.... Bruce is my girlfriend's brother in law and we're partnering up...he's helping out a lot and will soon be building humis on his own... We were smoking an A. Fuente - Hemingway Natural that the guy from the local B&M gave us.... Excellent smoke!

Re: More Humi Goodness
I thought I'd do a quick post of the humidors currently on the bench... Things are a little chaotic in the shop right now... but, when the proverbial dust settles.... we should have some humidor goodness!
First up.... Wormy American Chestnut & Walnut.... 12" x 10" x 7".... 120 Count... American Chestnut is an extinct wood... the species was wiped out by blight in the 1940's... so, this piece of wood is at least 70 years old already.... This one is going to have engraving on the inside of the lid. Next Up... Jataboa (Brazilian Cherry)... 20" x 14" x 12"... 480 Count... Walnut - 16" x 12" x 7" .... 185 Count Another Wormy Chestnut & Walnut - 16" x 12" x 7" ... 192 Count. This one is going to have a laser engraved image on the top and inside of the lid as well as some detail engraved along the bottom edge of the Chestnut where it meets the base... Another Walnut... 12" x 10.5" x 6.25"... 120 Count Very nice grain in this Walnut...

Re: More Humi Goodness
Great work! I would love to see images or get a description on how you are attaching the Spanish cedar to the inside? Are you just doing a compression fit with 45s or are you gluing?

Gentlemen, you may smoke!

Re: More Humi Goodness
Great work! Do you actually have a laser engraver in your shop? I remember I got to play around with one back when I was in college (not really allowed, more or less was unsupervised and would have gotten in a ton of trouble...)
Anyhow, they are great tools. I remember using one to burn my name into a piece of wood using a CNC program to do the design. Fun stuff. Can't wait to see the finished products. |

Re: More Humi Goodness
Last night I oiled up the Brazilian Cherry.... Posted in another thread...
Then, I measured and cut the spline locations in the other boxes.... It was a good night in the shop...
