Thesis Help - Comminucating Danger
Inmates,
I have entered my last semester with Gonzaga University and am completing an MA program in Communications. As such, I have begun working on my thesis for the program and am looking for help. My intention thus for is to analyze how the messages of the harmful effects of smoking are communicted to the general public. I have read numerous rebuttals to the published effects on smoking and how that information seems to be skewed and misleading. As a future ex cigarette smoker and with my growing love of cigars, I am very interested in how we got to the point we are right now, where the use of cigarettes and, even moreso, cigars have reached the status of cardinal sin in the minds of many Americans. Plan of Action: A review of the scientific literature and a comparison of that literature to messages relayed to the public. Justifications on both sides of the fence for their positions on smoking as well as the money spent by both sides in enforcing and promoting their stances to Congress and to the public. A case study of three countries: America, a country in Europe and one in Asia on how the effects of smoking is communicated to the general public. I am still narrowing down my specific thesis question, but will post here when I get it to where I want it. As a philisophical thesis, I will not be conducting any research, but will rely on the ample research already published. Any documents, articles, research, etc. that you feel will be of benefit to me in this time would be greatly appreciated. Please let me know if anything here needs clarification. Again, thanks. Jason
