Cigars you used to like...
Anyone else find this; used to have some favorites that seem to not be what they used to be? Two sticks I used to really like are RP Edge Maduro and CAO Brazilia. For a few years, these two had great flavor, easy, wide open draw and good burn. The last 5 or 6 Edge maddies I've had we're like sucking a pea through a straw. Same with the Brazilia. Thought it was my humi, but all the other cigar brands I've had and shared with friends are spot on. Suspicion is that maybe the manufacuring was moved to another production location. The change in the Edge is dramatic, with draw and flavor nothing like the ones from years back.

I have found my taste change then change again. Some cigars I liked a couple of years ago didnt taste the same a year ago. I went back to them and liked them again. I would suggest never getting rid of anything and revisit in a year.

My tastes have changed many times over the years. This place has certainly helped that. But I always turn to my maduros. That will never change.

I hear ya. I used to love Indian Tabac Super Fuerte naturals. I smoked several a week for years. Now they taste awful and the draw is looser than an 80 year old hooker. Same story with the Indian Tabac Limited Reserve and the RP Connecticut from Cigars International. This is why I stopped smoking anything from Rocky Patel years ago.

Re: Cigars you used to like...
I've learned over time not to over-smoke one brand or type of cigar. even yard gars need to be in a rotation. A box can change year to year so sometimes it changes but i don't think i've ever had a cigar i "used" to like.

I got sick of RG Lonsdales when I bought 2 too many boxes of them. Cigar smoked wonderfully, but was just so sick of them...

The one that really got me started in this hobby, Bauza Jaguar. Bought a box a year or so ago and have smoked a couple. Just not what I remembered. Every so often I'll smoke one hoping they come around.

A little over a year ago I was loving Punch Bareknuckle Rothschilds. Then one day about eight months ago I seemed to lose my taste for them and no longer enjoyed them. I had one today with my morning cup of coffee and really enjoyed it.

Re: Cigars you used to like...
I have had my tastes change, but I thought that I was just "maturing"! I started my smoking days with Macanudos and Ashtons, but I really don't care for either now. Maybe I should bust out a Mac to see if they are better than I remember them being!

Re: Cigars you used to like...
I used to call Punch maduro robustos my cigar of choice. While I don't dislike them, I couldn't tell you the last time I've lit one up. With all the choices of great smokes out there as well as maturing tastes, I don't see change as a bad thing.

Re: Cigars you used to like...
This has happened to me with several cigars. I think it happens with lots of things, whiskey, beer. I will be really into something for a while, then it does not sound good to me for a period of time.
With cigars, if I have some that I am not favoring at the moment, I bury them in the cooler and by the time I forget they are in there I will likely find them and enjoy them again. |

Re: Cigars you used to like...
My go to cigar used to be Rocky Patel Vintage 92. Haven't had one in 5 years. Just no desire. My opinion and experience in this topic is there are so many great quality cigars out there that you find new favorites quite frequently and change tastes along with those favorites. Sometimes old favorites are forgotten and sometimes they stick around forever. It's all about opinion.
