Default New Project

Ok... I admit it... I've fallen back down the slope.

Tonight I decided to finally start taring down my old, seized up mini-fridge. I plan on creating a simple humidor. I won't be using the cooling capabilities of the fridge as I store my collection in the climate controlled basement.

Already have the beads and plenty of sticks to fill it.

Any tips or suggestions would be appreciated. I will have electric in it to accommodate the potential need for fans or active humidification, but the beads should be sufficient.

Pictures to follow.

UPDATE:

I've torn down the fridge and removed all plumbing as the compressor is seized. Will be cleaning and sealing the unit hopefully this weekend.

After that, I plan on installing a two-outlet junction box inside for fans or any other accessories that may be needed.

Quick upgrade to the weather seals and possibly a latch of some sort and then ready for seasoning. (May look into some soft of single trays or slide out drawers)

PICS to follow in the near future

Good idea, I'm guessing it already seals pretty good so not much else you really need to do to it. Some kind of cool paint job on the outside of it would be great.

If you dont have trays or drawers, then there is no need to season, hydrate your beads, load up the sticks and you're good to go

I'm using Shalia beads... So just throw them in with my sticks and I'm good?? No need to establish proper humidity before adding sticks??

The humidity from the cigars has no where to go if the fridge seals good. Remember, there are no wood trays or shelves to absorb the moisture (season).

Yes, you should be good to go.

Nope, just keep in mind that if your sticks are dry, they will absorb some humidity, but otherwise you are good to go
