I found on the S&W site, the M&P 360 model revolver.

3" barrel, .357, black and ~15 oz.

Only issue is it has a hammer, which wasn't a deal breaker, but weird that they don't offer a 3" hammerless model in black.

It would appear that we are not that far apart in our thinking, abeit a few differences. Now, after looking at the S&W page, it seems my memory of the weights of these weapons is not not accurate. Or I'm thinking of loaded weights, I don't know, but whatever it is, what I had in my head for weights was greater than what they are when unloaded.

Is sending the weapon out to a gunsmith to have the hammer bobbed an option for you?

Different application. Backpacking carry gun. .357 minimum.

My carry gun is a G19.

We're talking lightweight because ounces matter on the trail. Chest holster, slightly exposed and revolver because mags weigh a lot.

I have a guy local who could do it.

Though if he can't do it, I'm wondering if just buying an aftermarket bobbed hammer would be more ideal ($$$).

EDIT:: just found a recommended website.

Oh you're talking about backpacking? I'd probably use one of these if I was into backpacking.

To my knowledge, I've never fired a S&W with an aftermarket hammer, so I simply don't know.

I hope this doesn't sound like I'm being a wise azz. But bobbing a revolver hammer is a pretty simple job. A nice file and some emery cloth and the required elbow grease.
One thing you can do is order a spare stock hammer to bob, install and use it. If its not what you want put the original back in.

If it was an AR-15 hammer, I'd do it in a heartbeat, but with complete inexperience in this sort(revolvers) of thing and the necessity for it to work 100% of the time if needed. It's worth the 30$ and change for someone to do it for me.

I'd only do this if I reload it. Semi-Auto tear brass up though.

Yeah but even reloading it get expensive for this round and Alexander Arms hasn't helped the matter. Lapua Brass is all thats avail although its coming down in price, still near 85-90 bucks per 100. If you want a Competition Die set w/ bushings your also looking above 200 bucks...but the round has its merits.

Can't wait to see what you build brother
