That's about what I do, pour doubles and sip. But I'll usually switch to something else after one.

Pouring old weller 107. IMO this is a very underrated wheater. Beautiful dark appearance. I'd love to get my hands on some 12yo to try. Darn N.C. being an ABC state....

A friend of mine let me try some Knob Creek…and I was pleasantly surprised. So I picked up a bottle of Basil Hayden (at the recommendation of a friend), and I'm quite enjoying it. I'm a complete newbie to it. Any recommendations?

I never ventured down this road primarily due to the "burns" I got from scotch…and I just lumped all whiskey/bourbon/scotches into the same boat…and skipped them. Shame on me.

Anyhoo. Carry on.

My "cheap, everyday" bourbon - Evan Williams, especially the Single Barrel. A great bourbon at a great price.
My "mid-range, glass on the weekends" bourbon - Woodford Reserve
My "special occasion" bourbon - Pappy van Winkle, of which I've only ever had one bottle.

Hey Scotty, there are a few good suggestions in this thread but a good place to start would be Woodford Reserve. Not the Double Oak or whatever, just the straight stuff.

Although I prefer my bourbon neat, you might try throwing just 1 or 2 ice cubes in the glass and let them do their thing until melted. It will lower the temp just a bit of the bourbon which some feel you get less alcohol burn from. It also dilutes the drink just a bit but not too much to ruin the taste.

Pretty soon you will be getting on the wait list for Pappy's.

You are probably going to get a ton of suggestions though but Woodford is a pretty safe bet IMHO.

Sweet! Thanks for the advice. The Spec's by me is a new store, so they don't have crap in stock. They DO have Hendricks gin, though. My other fav.

I'll venture out to a better store and see what they have.

So I've been enjoying the bourbon as of late. Might have to consult this thread and posters some more...

Pretty good stuff, I like it. At $20 it's a fair price too.
