Re: Tequila Thread!!!
What kind of glass are you drinking your tequila from? I have a set of Riedel tequila glasses, they look like champagne flutes, but with straight sides. I've also used a small snifter. It works well but sometimes I get too much nose from it.

Re: Tequila Thread!!!
I've tried many Tequila's in my days, but only ONE has left me with NO hangover the next morning. That quickly became my favorite Tequila: Cabo Wabo in the blue bottle.

Been using the Glencairin Whiskey glasses neat or just a rocks glass with an ice cube. I treat it just like Scotch.

Re: Tequila Thread!!!
I, almost always, drink my Tequilas out of a medium size brandy sniffer.

Re: Tequila Thread!!!
I am pretty much only buying Mezcal from now on. Tequila tastes like water compared... The quality is now available in Mezcal, so why bother with Tequila?

Have you tried Sotol yet? It is also a very good Agave based drink!

Re: Tequila Thread!!!
Yes, they are all agave products, but Tequila is made only from agave grown in Tequila County, Mexico. Mezcal and Sotol are ways made from wild agave grown throughout the rest of Mexico. I do not recall exactly but there are some distinct differences in the process in which each is made as well. That fact, along with the different varieties of agave used in making Mezcal & Sotol make them different animals. If is often said that Tequila can be called a Mezcal or Sotol, however, Sotol and Mezcal cannot be called a Tequila. The reason for that is that both Mezcal and Sotol are not made from the agave grown in Tequila County, Mexico.

Same prices as the top Tequilas. I do not have a brand to recommend just yet.

Re: Tequila Thread!!!
Mezcal:
Note: Mezcal & Sotol both come as Blancos, Reposados and Anejos! Del Maguey Blanco is a good brand of Mezcal with several offerings from about $25 to over $100. The low price offerings are excellent, no need to spend big bucks! Monte Alban Reposado is also very good at around $25 a bottle. Dos Gusanos is still another in the $20/$30 range which is very good. There are a lot of Mezcal brands out there, of course, not as many as there are Tequila. Don’t make the mistake of looking for the Mezcal with the worms or scorpions or other critters in the bottles. Usually the better Mezcals do not have any critters within the bottles. Sotol: IMHO, one of the very best out there is Hacienda De Chihuahua Sotol Plata, which is a blanco. This sells in the $30 range. This is also available in all three styles. Don Cuco Sotol Tradicional is also very good. Leyenda Soto is extremely good as well! There are far fewer brands of Sotol than Mezcal out there that come into the USA. Sotol is truly the very first beverage made from the Agave and has been around forever. It is produced exactly the same way Tequila is produced, but it is made from wild agave. It is, and always has been what Tequila is today. The only difference it that it is made from wild agave and not farm grown agave from Tequila County, Mexico.

I did impress the hostess of the event when she asked what the difference was between tequila and mezcal. Told her it's where the agave is grown. Thanks for the lesson
