Re: NHL '08- '09 Thread
I think if the goalie decides to venture out of the crease he is fair game. Its just one ref called it a goal the other said no goal. The replay was sent it upstairs, and they ruled it as a goal. I feel they should have sent it to Toronto or where ever the NHL headquarters are located for a review as well.

Re: NHL '08- '09 Thread
The review was based on the clock and not based on the contact.
After all it was a record for the goal scored with the least amount of time left on the clock. They had to review the goal to determine if it crossed the line before the time expired. I am not an expert on officiating but a goal cannot be reviewed based on a contact with the goalie or a penalty with another player on the ice. Thats the job of the on ice officials. Part of the reasoning behind this is that a camera doesnt understand all the aspects of whats happening on the ice. There are often reasons why a ref wont call what appears to be an obvious call. As to review a players kicking motion yes, but the upstairs and Toronto will not overturn a goal based on the lack of a call on the ice. They dont have the authority. |

The goalie is not "fair game" outside the crease, that is ridiculous. Those that say he is....so if the goalie goes behind the net to stop the puck, the opposition should be able to full out run him? Please, the NHL would be out of healthy goalies every season by December.
Certainly they should not be "untouchable", incidental contact and the like should not lead to a goalie interference penalty...but straight out "fair game"? No way.

Re: NHL '08- '09 Thread
Couple of big games going on tonight. Boston looks to take out the trash in Montreal. Both the Rangers and 'Hawks look to take commanding leads in their series. Got a soft spot for the Rangers and hope the Blackhawks can take care of business for the Admiral!

The Bruins have taken out the trash 4-1. Good luck tonight to the Hawks and hope that the Rangers and Carolina come out of their series as winners.
