Default Re: The Wine Thread

Hey, I found a hidden wine thread!!

I see the recent talk has turned to port but I want to share a couple pics of my wine "cellar". As you can see my wife and I enjoy wine way too much.
Ports are on the bottom shelf, third rack from the left. Wines that still need a few more years of ageincluding ports, are in the closet to the left of the cooler

Also in that closet are my coolerdors and other cigar related crap

That's a good buy at $13. Keep you eyes out for any 2011 LBV's as that is regards as one of the best vintages in long long time.

If you make it to Boston, I have some '70 & '85 Offley vintage we can drink!

Since you are seeking out port, for tawny or colheita:

Niepoort
Kopke
St. Leonardo
Ferreira
Quevedo

If you can find anything from these brands, they are all great at every price point.

Moses, does Colheita have to be drank immediately after opening (3 days or less)? or is it like most other Ports and can be enjoyed months afterward? Not that opened Ports last a week in my house, just curious, thanks!

I wouldn't say months, but a month for sure. They will last as long as any tawny once open. The wood aging oxidizes the wine to provide more stability once open.

Another thing worth trying is white port. Mix 1/2 white port with 1/2 tonic into a high ball glass with ice and garnish with either fresh mint or basil leaf. Great drink to start a night off with friends or alone!

Been drinking a lot of Jos Carr Josh cabs over the past year+. For $10/bottle, you can't go wrong with it as an every day table wine.

Wines from the Rhone region can be a good value. CdP is usually mostly Grenache grape, but is blended.

For good cheap daily drinker, try St James Basket Press http://www.thewinebowgroup.com/our-b...t-press-rouge/

Excellent crowd pleasing wine for like $10 and unique in that it is made from a blend of different vintages in a solera system like Sherry wine. Bottles age fine with screw cap. Had one that was like 5 years old and was equally as fun.
