Ian Rankin-one of the best detective series out there.

bad detective writing:

"Detective Bart Lasiter was in his office studying the light from his one small window falling on his super burrito when the door swung open to reveal a woman whose body said you've had your last burrito for a while, whose face said angels did exist, and whose eyes said she could make you dig your own grave and lick the shovel clean."

I've probably read about 4 or 5 of his books and have enjoyed them all. In fact, I think I actually picked the first one up after reading a recommendation from you in this thread(or possibly the thread from CS). Thanks!

Yeah, there are lots of 'bad writing' contests. That one was a winner here in Cali, 08.
I was really looking for a more recent one that was an even better example of bad, so, without being able to locate the really terrible one, that example was the very worst that I could do.

I have The Lost Symbol by Dan Brown, but unfortunately haven't had time to read it. I am currently reading Managing Cisco Network Security and The Art of Deception by Kevin Mitnick.

Good one-I read it last month. A departure for Lehane, who writes great mysteries but he does an excellent job on The Given Day.
