Re: Recommend me a Patel
So far, after trying many R.P.s I like the Vintage 92 best. But only in the Perfecto size. The larger sizes and even the Petite Corona dont have as good flavor as the Perfecto. This is an awesome morning smoke w/ Coffee too.
I liked the Decade too. Very nice flavor but the flavor did not change at all through the entire stick. I wolud still like to try the Edge Sumatra. I did not like the other Edges. |

Re: Recommend me a Patel
If I remember correctly, priming refers to when, in the life cycle of a tobacco plant, when the leaf is harvested. The lower on the plant, the younger the leaf, the more mild the flavor is.
I complained to my bud about the wrapper leaf of the Renaissance being too thin and easily damaged. He explained the lower priming ( earlier harvesting of a younger, thinner wrapper leaf ) was a possible cause.

The Rocky Patel Summer 2009 is probably one of the top five cigars I've ever had. I can't buy enough.

Re: Recommend me a Patel
"Primers"" as they are referred to can be seen {link removed} harvesting tobacco. Harvesting refers to removing the mature ripe leaves from the plant. When the leaves begin to turn yellow, it is time to harvest them. Harvesting tobacco can be done by machine or by hand. These workers have chosen to do it by hand. Tobacco that is harvested by hand is either primed or stalk-cut. Bright-leaf tobacco that is hand harvested is primed. Priming involves picking leaves as they ripen. Leaves ripen and are harvested from the bottom of the stalk upward. Priming requires several harvests because the leaves ripen at different rates. Some growers use a pre-harvest chemical which causes yellowing of the leaves so more can be harvested at one time.

I see, thanks for the info! I continue to learn new things everyday on this board.
The thing with "recommend me a ...." threads is that they tend to result in hundreds of suggestions. Everyone's got a different favorite and there never seems to be majority consensus on what is the "best" of the brand. I appreciate everyone's input and I think I'm going to pick a few based on which lines got the most recommendations. |

I go through a lot of EDGE MAD. OWR MAD. and VIN.92. RP factory selects are some that I keep around also. Honduran Classics aren't bad with a little time on them and be had at a deceit price at auction at FAMOUS

Another vote for the V'90 and the Edge Sumatra and I also like the Edge Light, which is only light compared to the other Edges.

Re: Recommend me a Patel
There are too many RP blends. But that's another thread.
My favorites are Edge Missiles(either wrapper), OWRs(either wrapper) and Renaissance. The Decades are good, but not worth the coin, IMHO. Some of the seasonal blends are OK, and several of my local BOTLs love last Winter's blend. I've tried the Ocean Club, Royal Order, SG, Vint. 90/92 and others, but always gravitate to the first 3 blends mentioned. I just obtained a Patel Bros. to try. The list goes on, and on... Chemyst |

Just tried a Rocky Patel Rosado Toro from "Famous" and enjoyed it thoroughly. It had that classic RP taste with a little twist to it. So, I enjoyed it and would recommend it. My
