Some love it, some hate it. I'm on the fence about it. Just an experiment I did a year ago. Candi sugar, Belgian Strong Ale yeast, some belgian malts.
That actually sounds pretty awesome. I just entered a Belgian Christmas ale in this year's NHC, am hopeful for good feedback. Basically it's what I call a "kitchen-sink" Trappist, so I'm not sure how it will fare. Like yours, some have loved it, some hated it. We'll see!

How was the 2010 Dark Lord Dave? I assume more age will greatly impove it. The 09 and 10 vintages of Dark Lord have been on the sweeter side from what people tell me.

Every year is different. The 09 was the only one that was "sweet". The 2010 is drinking good. And from what I've had I would say four year is the max you would want to keep Dark Lord.

I had 09 6 months after it's release... instantly the best beer I had ever had. I wish I would have known last year that they were selling 09's too! Didn't find out til after I went through. I would have got half and half. 2010 I had 6 months after release and was disappointed. I had one in January and it was amazing. Can't wait for 2011!

Really? None of my friends who went said anything about them selling '09s in '10. Dave, did you see this there?

Drank an Oskar Blues Ten FIDY last night with dinner. Bought a case in December to drink over the colurse of the year. These have a maximum of probably 4-5 months on them, but damn they're killer at the moment. I'll be reserving no more patience going forward.

Yup. They asked if I wanted any. 2010 was $15 and 2009 was $20. I split them half and half. I didn't go through until 5pm too!

I think it's the can that does it Tom. It is good beer and shouldn't sit to long. It's great right out of the gate and that's when you should drink it.

Some stand outs from last night:

Victory Old Horizontal Barleywine
Bootleggers Rustic Rye IPA should have drank this one first
Coronado Idiot IPA

and a few SN Big Foots to fully close the door on the evening!

My sister-in-law bought me a set of the sam adams glasses that have the etched ring at the bottom and are specially shaped to minimize heat transfer from your hand and increase your ability to smell the boquet of the beer. They are actually really nice glasses and I naturally had to have a couple boston lagers in them. I don't think the etched ring did anything, but they definitely concentrated the boquet on the nose. I enjoyed drinking out of them.

Haha that's what I said. I went through around 5 or so, I think... long day of drinking... but they didn't say anything. I was getting 6 bottles (since they went from 4 to 3 per ticket) and said they didn't have any boxes left, then I saw people after me with boxes, wtf. My girlfriend carried a few in her purse and I carried a few in my pants. Dude from 3F was like "Is that a Dark Lord in your pocket or are you just happy to see me?" I was like "Both"

Had a slew of good micro brews this past week as my 21st finally hit two weeks ago. Most recently I had a Stone Imperial Russian Stout. Fantastic!

Arcadia Shipwreck Barrel Aged Porter.

This is a damned fine beer.. Inexpensive too! $5.49/12oz. is reasonable compared to some equally good beers.
This has got to be in my top three ever porters.
I'm going to buy all I can get. You'll see some at Shack!
