Primary arms makes good budget optics. I would think a 1-4x would be enough.

Went to a local gun show today to see if I could get a hands on feel for ideas on my setup. Price gouging was in full effect. Tulammo for $1/rd.

There was one table with a couple of guys selling some of their own stuff they've collected, not the typical dealers. Anyway he had an Acog on the table. Start talking to him about it and checking it out. If it wasn't brand new, it was damn near close. $600. He had already sold 9 earlier in the day. This was the last one. They had gotten them from an auction, so they didn't know any history in them. I left to check out the rest if the tables, and contemplate how I could come up with $600. Came back and it was sold. Damn, but my wallet thanked me.

2-7x might be a nice range for you. Redfield makes a budget minded one. Still useful at close range, and a little extra clarity farther away.

I guess it depends what you're going to shoot at 50 yards too... a 3-9x is a fairly classic scope range and readily available.

Me personally, I like things CLOSE for target shooting. I'd use a 20x at 100yds if I could. More tactical oriented shooting however, and it's 1-4x or 2-7x at max. My mini14 wears a 3-9x. My 3gun AR will wear a 1-4x.

Another option is a higher magnification scope but to have iron sights on the gun at a 45* offset for close work, which I'd say 50yrds counts as.

I just used those angled sights for the first time on my 15-22 this month, and I love em, I would stick em on every one of my builds if I could.

Of course, I stuck the $35 cheap ones on the 15-22... and they feel like it. On a plinker AR, screw it, I would probably still use the $35 ones.... for a competition gun like the 3gun one I'm building... I imagine I'll eventually have to bite the bullet and pony up the $230 for real ones....

You could always buy these and put whatever sights or reddot you want on them...

yeah, though if you're using em for a pair of normal mount rail sight blocks (like the spare pair I got kicking around that came on my 15-22), they will sit pretty high off the gun. Kinda awkward.

Always did think having a red dot mounted like that next to a 2-7x or a 3-9x scope was a pretty slick setup.

Francis. Here's a buckshot comparison at 15yrds into a car door. LE132-00 on the left, regular tactical buckshot on the right...just saying...

might as well be a slug under 15yds....

although I suppose there is something to be said for hitting someone with a wider spread and having greater chance of hitting something vital.... There's also something to be said for making a fist sized hole in someone too

I'd say that the le132-00 and a slug would both do that

Heres a .223 I just built for a customer...

McMillan A5 Stock, Stiller BM, Jewell Trigger, Bartlien 1/8 Twist Barrel Chambered for the 75 Amax & finished at 22.5", Pillar Bedded, Cerakoted Graphite Black in Satin. Action was a factory Rem that I completely trued up.

5 shot group at 100 yrds with no load developement...not bad!

That's a gorgeous rifle there!

If you don't mind me asking, around how much does something like that run?

Default Re: First Firearm Thread.

Slightly off the scope topic but I have a question.

My son has a new Ruger Security Six 357 Magnum bout a month now. Today at the store got the last box of ammo he thought was .38 special. He got home and realized under closer inspection he purchased .38+p. He is asking me if the 38+p will work in his weapon. But the models can come in 9mm, 357 or 38 specific. The 38 specically is moody if using the 38+p.

We have shot .38 special out of this .357 gun when he got it. Just need to know if 38+p will work if anyone knows. The +p is supposed to just be a heavier grain shot ?

I googled this earlier today and apparently the Ruger model comes in the Security Six, Special Six and some other kind of “six” model. I can’t go back and see what the other version is because I already typed this once and when I opened google in a new tab it wiped out what I typed by closing the previous window.. Guess opening a new tab only retains your other window, if it contains spam, ads, peepal or banking passwords, or animal prawn. Then it keeps that information forever.

So my question is does anyone forsee a problem substituting the 38+p for the 38 SP in this 357 ? Sorry but this my second attempt to ask this question apparently my laptop won't let me ask. Thanks for any help gentlemen,
