Re: First Firearm Thread.
flat state, or some **** like that. Sounds stupid to me, ya should always know where the bullet is going... but yeah, enough people and flat terrain that unleashing a 7mm Win Mag round on a horizontal trajectory would not be good....
sights... scope... hah... no... my shotgun SUCKS right now. Some kind of lesser known 2+1 semi auto, worth about $100. It's a plinker. Tell you what though, If I run across an Akdal 1919 for $600 (maybe even $700), it's going home with me... Seems like the only consensus I found while talking to dealers at the show last week is that imports might get restricted. They're more convinced of that then even a magazine limit. Although the main thing that scares me off of the 1919 is buying mags.... Otherwise... I might put off the shot gun till next year... Plan be was an 870 clone for $200... OR I've looked at a mossy 930....

Re: First Firearm Thread.
Very nice Steve.
Found a decent deal on a new RRA CAR A4 last night. Now the waiting game for it. What kinda optics do you all recommend?

Re: First Firearm Thread.
For an AR-15? For a 1x optic I recommend the aimpoint pro. runs about $400. You wanting something cheaper? or more magnification?

Re: First Firearm Thread.
Don't really know what I want at this point Justin. This is my first AR. Just trying to get ideas since I"m not building more of a traditional AR than the varmint style I first though.

Re: First Firearm Thread.
I might take some flak for this one, but my thought process if you don't have any experience with types of optics would be to get a cheap red dot ($80) and play with it. Then stick it on your .22 and get a real one for the AR if you like it.
Other optic options for a more CQB oriented AR (besides the well known EOTec) would be a 1-4x scope or a 2-7x scope. The 1-4x tends to be common in 3gun, a little less so in the field. The 2-7x seems to be the sweet spot for field work.

Re: First Firearm Thread.
Thanks Francis. You make a valid point, and may very well be the route I'll take in the beginning. First I need to get the rifle and learn it before I start adding all the accessories. I say that now, but I know me. I'll be scouring the web for what I think is the best deal.

Re: First Firearm Thread.
Primary arms is GTG
I got my first red dot, a sightmark tube from amazon for about the same price. Given a doover, I would probablly get the primary arms on the strength of reviews. But so far the sightmark is holding up and functioning well, I don't regret my purchase. (you can see it holding down the fort on my 15-22 a few pages back)
