Re: First Firearm Thread.
I have said this many times! How many times you hear about an accidental shooting followed by "I thought the safety was on!"

Re: First Firearm Thread.
Two of my six guns have a safety.
One of them, I am glad as it is my wife's Sig P238 and to me, that is an example of of wanting a safety, given it should be carried with hammer cocked. I feel a whole lot better with her having that. The other is my Shield and the only time I use it is at times whenever I remove it from the holster. There are times I make my wife practice with both weapons, drawing, removing mag, chambering, etc. and I feel a lot warmer and fuzzier with the safety on. In time, as she gets better versed, will see no need for it. In the holster, with no one else around, no safety. On the Sig, I find it functional. On the Shield, seldom use it and it is so small and insignificant, don't care if there.

I carry my 1911 cocked and locked, wouldn't have it any other way.

Re: First Firearm Thread.
If the gun is single action only then yes it needs a safety. Otherwise the July saftey needed is to keep your booger hook off the bang switch.

Re: First Firearm Thread.
damnit....
I was all excited today. Got most of the parts needed for my custom AR upper in today. Enough to start building it at least. 11" Troy alpha rail 14.5" Daniel Defense barrel YHM 5C2 Comp/hider to pin to the barrel and make it legal. Low profile Wilson Combat adjustable gas block. Some random stripped upper that Midway has in stock, etc. No sign of a BCG yet (it's coming... eventually ), and I still havn't found an in stock barrel nut to buy, but that wasn't going to stop me from playing with the parts so I picked up the barrel, screwed on the comp, and grabbed a tape measure to check the length to the chamber. "hmm.... that can't be right... I'm a couple inches short..." *measure barrel* "twelve inches???" *check invoice* "14.5" M4 Carbine 1:7" *check label on shipping tube* "5.56, 1:7, 12.5" M4 Carbine" Son of a ***** Got it from Brownells, so I know they'll fix it... but erm... you know, there's the slight issue of "WHEN" in this century they might get more stock in!

Can't, I'll be out of the country long before the ATF could ever get around to approving it
