Nice, Gabe. I can't remember the last time I've seen any Stagg or Taylor around here...it's probably been years.

I poured some of the Still Austin Cask Strength tonight. It smells great; one of the more complex aromas I've encountered in a while. I get cherry, butter, and raisin in one whiff, then cinnamon and vanilla the next. The taste is more fruit, caramel, and some spiciness from the rye, along with something that's almost creamy that I can't quite pinpoint. At around $60-ish a bottle, I'll definitely grab more of these.

Damn you James! I’ve seen the Still Austin, but wasn’t sure since Texas juice gets a bad rap. Between your review and a couple others I’ve seen online, I might need to pick it up.

Was grocery shopping at a big chain store in my area. Went into the liquor section to see sparse shelves. The lady who stocks that area was in going thru stock. Said hello like I always do when I see her. She says, “Looking for Blantons?”. Really wasn’t, but since I nearly killed a bottle last night. And at msrp, sure. And the stopper is a letter (S) that I didn’t have.

One of our local chains has a single barrel Still Austin CS, James. I tried a pour a couple months ago and ended up buying a bottle on the spot.

Bob, you can't always get what you want, but if you try sometimes, you get Blanton's.

Opened a bottle of one of my favorite Elijah Craig BP batches, B620.

Bought this 14 Year Rare Perfection a couple weeks ago. Opened it last night.... kind of different for a non finished bourbon. Sweet on the palate, but a short dry finish. I haven't decided if I like it or not yet.

Isn't that stuff Canadian? Checks out based on your review

My FIL picked up a bottle of that Traveller whiskey when he was here and wanted to leave it with me, it's not terrible so long as you know you're getting sweet boring Canadian whisky (although it allegedly has Barton blended into it). I'd take a half decent 'Berta Rye over anything else coming out of that country

I'm with you on the rye, Ben.

It's distilled in Bardstown KY, same one that bottles Olde St. Nick. But yeah, it compares to a lower proof light whiskey

Had a little fun yesterday. Did a blind tasting of last years Bookers releases. Idk if my palate is completely screwed, but they all tasted the same to me. The musty peanut funk was pretty much all I could taste. Keep saying I’m going to lay off the cigars for a bit, but here I am smoking one in the garage.

Crazy, Bob.

I would rate the 23-01 (Charlie's) as maybe the best batch since 2020, and I would rate 23-02 (Apprentice) as the absolute worst Booker's batch ever.

So is it your palate, or is it mine?

Managed to grab a couple of EHT bottles yesterday: A bottle of Single Barrel and Small Batch. There is a local Discord server that is dedicated to the local bourbon drops. Once word gets on there, it is a mad rush for those members to get to whichever store is mentioned to buy up all of the allocation drops. They are making bourbon hunting not so much fun anymore.

I missed the chance to try Charlie’s Batch

Apprentice batch I’m not a fan of as it’s heavy on the ethanol bite. Working my way through my one and last bottle of that.

23-03 I believe is the Mighty Small Batch and that one I love.

23-04 I’ve not tried but I may pick it up next month. Maybe. It’s marked up of course and I’ve over spent this month. Not a priority at this point. I’m also not hearing from Icehog and others great things so hard to justify over say an Elijah Craig bottle that is better priced and seems well talked about. The A124 that is.

Might Fine batch is pretty solid, Dave.

I agree with you on Apprentice, one and done.

I'll revisit 24-01 (Springfield) in another week or so, I always like to give them 3 weeks open. Initially, I was not impressed. Not Apprentice bad, but not great.

Charlie's batch is probably my favorite since Granny's (20-01).
