Re: Your first cigar
I bought a handful of good cigars with all the gifted cash I received from family after high school graduation. I don't recall the specific cigars but they were all pretty expensive name brands (this was 1997 though)
That summer I didn't have a care in the world. no job, no girlfriend, and plenty of money to just f*ck off basically. I remember several nights sitting on the backyard patio, alone with my thoughts, having a few beers and a cigar thinking, it can't get better than this. good times |

Re: Your first cigar
It was a loooong time ago, when I was about 15. I was out one night with some friends and somebody passed some cigars around. I have no idea what it was, but it probably came from a gas station. It made me sick, wishing I could puke but couldn't. It was a few decades before I got up the nerve to do that again. When I did, my first was either a RyJ 8-5-8 or a Punch Elite. That time it took, and down the slope I went.

Re: Your first cigar
Before I really got into it, I smoked cigars VERY infrequently into my late 20's. Once in a great while someone would give me a cigar during golf or at a sporting event, usually cheap machine mades like Swisher Sweets or something like that.
The first cigars I remember buying and enjoying were TeAmos. I friend gifted me a couple and I liked them. I bought a box of 10 TeAmo Relaxations. I kept em' in a tupperdore with a cello sponge. I couple months later I bought a cabinet of 50 Punch Rothschilds, a small humi and my fall down the slippery slope had begun. I haven't had TeAmo in years and I probably wouldn't buy one. My taste has gravitated to stronger smokes, but I still have fond memories of smokin' those bad boys on the golf course!

All this talk about Swisher Sweets, I thought the thread was only for real cigars.

Re: Your first cigar
Long time ago....I'm sure I started off with a drug store cigar but the first name brand serious stick I remember was the Macanudos. Next were the Henry Clays, then Excaliburs. No humidor at that point....just picked up the singles at liquor stores and cigar shops and smoke 'em right away. I got more serious when I built my first Tupperdore! I remember feeling a bit awkward going into a drug store pharmacy and asking for propylene glycol ('why do you want THAT!?!?!'). The first box I stored in the Tupperdore was AF Corona Imperial maddies......gosh I loved those things! After I was done with those I loaded it up with Sosa Wavells and then Santa Rosa naturals. Then I became a full blown stogie addict.

Re: Your first cigar
Well for me, I had been smoking cigars for about 6 years but never seriously. So I didn't own a humidor, cutter, or any cigars other than the ones I would buy going to the cigar stores to smoke the day I bought them. I probably only smoked about 5-6 per year at events like BBQs and such.
Well I met a guy (named Ray...) that my gf worked with and had a bunch of classes with. We all started hanging out more and eventually as we all became friends we started to play poker as a weekly event. Well one of the poker events the topic got to cigars... and I expressed some interest in cigars, so Ray (Spect) asked me if I wanted to go down to the cigar shop and have a cigar. I said sure... not even sure what cigar it was other than a Fuente of some kind. But I enjoyed the cigar so much, that he felt inclined to push me off the cliff and down the slope... Now here I am almost 2 years after that, I have about 3-4 cigars a week average and my Cabinet is almost full and the overflow is working its way into one of two Vinos... I know it wasn't my first cigar... but it is the one I consider to be my first since it was the one responsible for my quick fall off the cliff! |

Re: Your first cigar
I recall smoking a Garcia y Vega back in high school. It tasted bad enough that I wouldn’t go near a cigar for several years. I also remember smoking an MC2 back in the mid-90’s and I was hooked.

Re: Your first cigar
My first was a Monte #4 in the summer of '05.
I was in Dublin on the first holiday with my wife. I was looking for a whiskey-flask and saw some in a window (app. of a cigar store, don't remember the name) and ended up with a flask/cigartube in one and aforementiond cigar. Smoked it in the evening while sitting by the Liffey. |

Re: Your first cigar
The first cigar I remember smoking was a Dutch Masters. I was way too young to be smoking (7th or 8th grade). I don't remember much about it but I liked it.
My buddies bought me my first premium cigar on my 18th birthday. I think it was a Punch but I'm not sure. I do remember that it was like 9 inches long!!! We went to our local indian casino (which allowed 18yo at the time) and I remember the security guards wondering if they had to confiscate the cigar because it could be used as a weapon I smoked that thing for like 3 hours!! |
