Re: C-Bid Habits
I can't take credit for this, but if you are still using cbid make sure you check out:
http://www.c-h-i-m-p.com/ I think I stopped using cbid because of the dark side. I still do browse it and I still encourage new smokers to "shop" there. |

Re: C-Bid Habits
I've got a couple of bids pending right now but I definitely use CB differently than I used to. I'm pretty much looking for something specific now and patiently place some bids and see how it goes. I'm still a noob though so I do use it to try out thngs on occasion as well. I just don't go and place bids all across the board like I used to. Got stuck with too many things I didn't really enjoy.

Re: C-Bid Habits
I haven't placed a bid in about two months. When I do, I bid and walk away. If I win great, if I don't, that's ok to. I find the msrp and bid slightly under and that's that. I'm not going to get caught up in a bidding war for over priced sticks.

Re: C-Bid Habits
Coupla weeks for me. That evil farking place is great as long as you check prices somewhere else before bidding or increasing your bid. It's too easy to gt caught up in a bid war and lose money!

Re: C-Bid Habits
Before I bid I do a lot of research. I use the comparison shopper on cigarcylopedia.com and CHIMP. I make sure never to bid more than below average sale price on CHIMP and make sure I can't get it cheaper retail. Then I constantly check my bid history to see if I'm still winning...probably a little OCD along with not wanting to work I put a stop to all my spending on cigars after all my shipments recently came in but then I checked cbid Wed and saw they had RP sun grown pcs. I've been wanting a box for awhile and got them pretty cheap. I'm now going to go to cbid and delete my cc info so I can't shop at work anymore

Re: C-Bid Habits
When I used cbid I used a percentage system. I would check a few major internet sites prices and only bid up to 65% of that. If it was something really popular or that I really wanted I might go to 75%, but that was it. I lost a lot of bids, but I new that if I "won" I got a fair deal.
I think part of why I stopped using the site was becuase even 75% was rarely enough anymore. |

No problem, just mentioned it in case you didn't see it. It was a good tool when it was updated.

Re: C-Bid Habits
So far I haven't been able to go an entire week without ordering something.
Then I remember I need to order a few more items to justify the shipping costs.

I only get a special now and then. I won't buy anything from there unless it's $20 or more discount off box price.

Re: C-Bid Habits
I stop in when I know I am looking for something specific and I stick to that and pretty much ignore all the other auctions. I do this when I know I want something and I figure I will try and score a deal first. If it fails I will just go my usual route of picking up a box.
The problem with C-Bid is often times when it's first discovered by a smoker or a newer smoker is directed to it you get on these bidding tears where your bidding on anything and everything and eventually you find out half of what you won is not to your liking and your stuck with an excess of smokes that you know you will never smoke. Now your stuck taking up precious humidor space until you either sell off what you bought or give it away. I know when I first found C-Bid I had a ton of smokes that I got really cheap but at the same time I wasn't sure if I would like them all. I would say about 50% of it ended up being buried for months until I got rid of them and the higher end stuff on C-Bid tends to get ridiculous where you can more often than not just go to CI and get it cheaper without the hassle of an auction.

Re: C-Bid Habits
I used to use it alot up until about a year or so ago. It seemed like people started bidding the prices up to, and over prices available at other online vendors. Plus you had to wait until it ended.
I agree w/ Bob, you just have to be patient. Bid low, bid one time, and dont keep upping your price. Get a "set" price in your mind and stick w/ it. |

Re: C-Bid Habits
I prefer cigarsatyourprice.com. I've bought alot throught them and no need to worry abut bidding. Of course sometimes they are out of stock on the ones you want, but overall my experience with them has been good.

Re: C-Bid Habits
I frequently browse what's ending soon to see if there is something I am looking for that has snuck by unnoticed.....safe to say that I have yet to place a bid.
