Obviously the ad was produced by non-cigar smokers. When shooting product photography, the focal point of the image is often "dressed up" to make it look better. I would say that someone on the set said, "Let's make them look shiny and brand new!" without considering the fact that cigars don't glisten like a well-oiled piece of machinery.
This is nothing new for print advertising. Did you know that most of the food used in advertising and to illustrate articles and recipe books isn't real? That's because real food doesn't hold up well under the lights or for as long as necessary to get the perfect photo. My favorite is ice cream. Most of the time they use mash potatoes. I like good cigars. I don't smoke Te-Amo's

Interesting photo. Te-Amo actually has what I consider the most entertaining cigar ad i've seen all year. In the issue with the entourage folks on the cover they ran an ad for Te-Amo nub-like cigars
