Re: Cigars & our better half...
I am fortunate to have a wife that likes to smoke with me also. Although she has never told me to not buy something, now that I have four coolidors and two desk tops full, she asks if I "Need" them. I think that she knows that she will reap the benefits of smoking with me. One of the best gifts I ever got was her admission that a fight we had was her fault and the apology came with about $25 worth of smokes. That was a double win for me!

Re: Cigars & our better half...
My wife doesn't smoke with me, but she will try a puff of mine every now and then. We've been together 8 years, and she's been fully supportive of my cigar passion since the beginning. If she's out shopping, and passes by my local B&M(Emersons, Hampton, Va), she'll stop in and pick up a VSG or a Padron '64 for me(the two she can remember I like). I'm thankful to have her, and everyday is better than the last.

Re: Cigars & our better half...
I've got the gf to enjoy the CAO flavors:
http://www.cigarasylum.com/vb/showthread.php?t=48567 Then a sneaky ninja got a hold of my address through another member here, and decided she needed a bigger push: http://www.cigarasylum.com/vb/showthread.php?t=48636 Now she's got her own 100ct humi. At least she doesn't like non-flavored cigars. I don't have to share my CC's with her.

Re: Cigars & our better half...
My wife likes the smell of cigars, Just not in the house. I'm fine with that. My daughter lives near Statesville and when she is coming home my wife will ask if I need her to stop at JR's and get me anything. I love that woman!

Re: Cigars & our better half...
My wife not only hates the smell and has never found one that had a smell she liked, she is also very allergic to cigarette and cigar smoke. I thought the whole allergy thing was a joke until one night we were in a casino when we got back to the room I saw a ton of raised whelps on her chest and back. When I inquired she said, "I told you I'm allergic to the smoke. That's what happens".
Now with all that said, she is very supportive. We have ground rules. No smoking in the hosue, no smoking on days we are going out in the evening, I don't expect a kiss after we have been smoking, and I shower before going to bed. I abide by these rules she totally supports the hobby often buying me smokes, encouraging me going to the local shop and even suggests on nice days that I should smoke a cigar on the porch cause "its nice out" just incase I haven't already thought of it. I'm one of the lucky ones. My wife will probably never smoke or enjoy the hobby with me but she is super supportive what more can I ask for! |

Re: Cigars & our better half...
My wife is not a fan of cigars, or smoking in general, and I don't blame her. That said, she has never tried to tell me what to do. She knows I enjoy it, and she allows me my guilty pleasures.
I have a 3rd bedroom that I have set up as my man room. 2 leather rocker recliners, my TV, laptop, PS3, etc... this room has the exhaust vent for our whole-house fan. I smoke in this room and you can't even tell thanks to the fan and the smoker cloaker.

Re: Cigars & our better half...
My wife smoked cigarettes for years and we'd sit on the deck at night and smoke together, until the bugs would run her back inside.
She quit almost a year ago and I couldn't be more proud of her. She always did and still does comment on ones she thinks smell good. She has a nose for the good ones.

Re: Cigars & our better half...
I hid my cigar hobby from my girlfriend for awhile, only smoking when I was not around her. One day she saw my coolidors and asked why I had all these coolers in my basement and then I had to tell her. I didn't want her to think I was hiding bodies or something.
So when we moved to Dublin last June and I discovered JJ Fox I would grab a cigar almost every day and that's when she found out. After initially saying that it was a gross habit she has come to understand that there is a large difference between cigarettes and cigars and she has become a lot more understanding. When we were in Cuba in December she even started to sit out with me while I was smoking. She's come to understand that it's a hobby that I am passionate about and that it brings me happiness. I'm driving her and my mother around Niagara on the Lake all afternoon for wine tastings, so she got me a groupon deal at the B&M there so I could grab a couple of sticks to smoke while they are doing their tastings. |

Re: Cigars & our better half...
My wife knew i would smoke a cigar every now and then, i even bought a small humi (50 ct never had more than 5 sticks in it) but 3 years ago when moving to our new house a lot of stuff got throw away with that stuff went my humi. I didnt miss it, but after 3 years of not smoking (3 months ago) my wife decides to surprise me with a 10 pk sampler, i told told her you know what this means right and she replied "yeah yeah, you can buy a humi for them". I bought a 150-200 ct cabinet, and this past Sunday she smoked her very first stick with me (Tabak Dulce)!!

My Wife Can't Stand Cigars Or Cigar Smoke. She Doesn't Nag Me Anymore, Though, About How Much Money I Spend On Them & How It's Bad For My Health. I've Reduced My Smoking To 2-5/ Week & She Accepts That. I Still Love Her To Death!

Re: Cigars & our better half...
My wife's not fond of me smoking cigars, and I definitely am not allowed to do it in the house, but I do have hope of slowly bringing her around. Our last trip out of town we went to a B&M with a little better selection than I have at home & she helped me pick out some new sticks. I even have a little Acid Blondie put back I'm hoping to convince her to try. We'll see...

Re: Cigars & our better half...
My wife's actually pretty cool about me smoking cigars; I think she'd have a harder time with me smoking cigarettes (as would I -- I can't really take the smell of cigarettes). Her dad was -- still is -- an avid cigar smoker, and she said that my smoking them reminds her of her dad having one now and then.
Last night she mentioned that "...we'll have to get a couple of fans and some kind of set up out in the garage for you for when the bad weather comes this winter." Completely unprompted on my part. I'm lucky.

Re: Cigars & our better half...
My wife's views have changed a lot. When I first started she didn't even know. When she found out she was "ok" with it. Now she brings me home little bags of cigars and we make a bi-weekly trip to a cigar store so she can help me pick out something. She just realized I guess how much I enjoy this. Very lucky guy.
