I knew that some makers fake dark maduros by coloring the wrappers with certain organics - I've heard of molasses being used - but I am surprised a higher-end brand would use them. Naturally-fermented maduros may be a bit blotchy in appearance, yet that won't affect how they smoke, and if the consumer is aware of the reality it shouldn't affect sales either. My rule-of-thumb: if the wrapper is any darker than milk chocolate, be suspicious.
