The best 200,000,000.00$ ever saved. I would have liked to see Pujols in a Cub's uniform, either way it's a good move for St. Louis. But the Angels? Really? So much for being a Cardinal for life and letting God choose his path, well maybe he is an Angel for a reason

Riiiiiiiiight... 'cause Pujols was terrible and a waste of space and that's why the Cardinals ended the season in last place.

He is 32 (maybe) 10 years from now unless he is really a machine 1st base will not be an option. St Louis can better invest the money in more players and have a more well rounded team. |

My condolences to all the STL fans. Big time money contracts in the MLB suck.

I really think it is for the best. Some say he had an off year I say he is on the decline. Even if his decline is better than most in baseball agreeing to a 9-10 year contract for that $ would have been insane. Losing TLR was a much bigger loss IMHO.

Re: St Louis Cardinals Fans Sound Off!
Your argument might hold water if he started off like a gangbuster and slumped as the season wore on, but the exact opposite happened. Then he continued to feast on opposing pitchers in the playoffs (1.155OPS). If that's slowing down, everyone else in baseball must be in reverse.

As much as I hate the guy, I do respect him. Losing TLR will prove to be a very big blow to the Cardinals.

No way St Louis. will be a better team without him.

Re: St Louis Cardinals Fans Sound Off!
I didn't see anything last year that would lead me to believe he's on the decline.
No doubt that contract will outpace him. Personally, I don't get the move by the Angels. Maybe they think Pujols is worth another half dozen games and that'll be enough to contend for the West and/or Wildcard. I wouldn't be surprised if he played a third of the season at DH this year. |

Re: St Louis Cardinals Fans Sound Off!
Sorry to see Pujols go. He had an opportunity to create a legacy in St. Louis. But a quarter billion dollars is a quarter billion dollars. Plus, he might be able to play until he is 42 as a DH in the American League.
Don't blame management one bit for taking a pass on this deal. The real question is how do they plan to spend the $20+ million every year that they didn't plunk down on one player? |

Re: St Louis Cardinals Fans Sound Off!
Beltran ... two years ... $26 million. No replacement for Albert but he will fit nicely somewhere in the middle of the lineup. Looks like they will put him and his bad knees in right field. Good to see the organization part with a little of the Pujolis cash. Still a little left over to beef up the bullpen.

Blowing the dust off this. Great game, Lohse pitched one of his best games! Frucal was all over the ball, Freese continues to be a threat along with the rest of the team. Best of all Cards Win 4-1!

Re: St Louis Cardinals Fans Sound Off!
Could be the best game I've seen Lohse pitch. During the last week or so, Freese was in a bit of a slump and there was talk about benching Frucal because his hitting was almost non-existant. Go figure?

Home run derby in Milwaukee! Got a little hairy there in the 9th from some odd plays but I am really liking how aggressive the Cards are playing this year.

Re: St Louis Cardinals Fans Sound Off!
Was home yesterday and was able to watch the whole game.
McClellan looked sharp until that dropped third strike. Then ... snakebit ... the wheels came off and he was the McClellan I have seen too many times. Garcia was good after he settled down. Nice to see him pitch like that on the road. With Gallardo's record against the Cards, I'm not sure why the Brewers started him for the home opener. Furcal and Freese had another good day at the plate and I was impressed by how Jay can play center field. Glad that Beltran is contributing some offense, hope he stays healthy. Always makes me nervous when the Cards score a bunch of runs. They seem to often come out flat the next day. Today ought to interesting anyway with Greinke and Wanno. With another right-hander on the mound, I Wonder if Matheny will give Greene any at-bats today? Is it just me, or do the Cards seem to have way too many outfielders on the roster? |
