Re: First Firearm Thread.
Well I went to buy another gun today, figured they didn't have it and the place has had 4-5 just laying around all the time.
I was going to grab a Nagant revolver, mostly due to dirt cheapness and the gas seal and the idea of firing a 223 out of one. Just seems like a lot of fun firepower for 150 range. So I'll be on a hunt for one. |

Re: First Firearm Thread.
Read in a Imperial Russian arms book, found a few spots on line.
Says it needs a hand load of sorts, I cant drop in a normal 223 though, but I'm kind giddy to try it. From the wiki (appears to be copied out of the book I have) Other cartridges—.32 S&W, .32 S&W Long, .32 H&R Magnum, and custom handloads using .32-20 Winchester, .30 Carbine or .223 Remington cases—will also chamber and fire in the revolver but will not achieve the gas seal. edit: http://forums.gunboards.com/showthread.php?t=5415 Just use the brass, the book seems to kind leave that out... |

Re: First Firearm Thread.
I would get a Glock 23 (.40). It is the same size frame as the G19. You can buy a conversion barrel for it to shoot 9mm. Basically, you get 2 guns in one

Go rent some to try before you buy. The glock gets alot of accolades, but the grip angle for me just doesnt work AT ALL. Its one of the most uncomfortable guns I've shot, especially in a .40. You can find used or CPO 226's in your price range, but dont rule out looking at a P229, they're amazing. |

Re: First Firearm Thread.
Yeah, the Sigs are definitely the top of the top. If the SEALS carry them, they can't suck.
Ironically, last night at work, everywhere I looked there were Ruger and Team Glock shirts. Turns out there is a gun manufacturer convention in Orlando this week, but not open to the public. I know I'm in a minority, but I feel that the Kel Tec P11 is the ultimate deep conceal weapon and with JHP +p rounds in it, is one heck of a good sidearm. I really am looking for a backup that is both concealable, dependable, and extremely well built. The Glock 19 is in the front of the pack right now, although I need to try some of the others mentioned here.

Re: First Firearm Thread.
I just started the process to get a LTC-A in Boston (unrestricted, concealed). Probably will end up with the A, non concealed, but that's fine. It comes down to the Police Chief's discretion, and 9 times out of 10 they do not allow concealed carry.
There's also quite a few hoops I have to jump through above and beyond the already draconian Massachusetts licensing process, but it will be worth it in the end.

Yea, I wish I lived just outside of Boston city limits (ie Cambridge, Arlington) as it would make it much easier. My safety class instructor lives in Arlington, and he said that the Police Chief gives everyone with good references LTC A unrestricted.

Re: First Firearm Thread.
I forgot how complicated it is up North.
You can go to a gun show here and take the class for free and send it in and have a concealed weapon permit in 3 months max. The class is nothing more than filling out paperwork, getting fingerprinted and hitting a taget twice from 25 feet.

BTW, if you look hard enough finding a new glock could be in the 400 range. not all the best deals are at the gun shows. i could put you in touch with someone who might run you a special if need be. |
