Thank you, thank you. I'm very happy with the results. It was a deep hole. The actual digging took me about an hour. I went through some pretty heavy soil and some roots needed to be cut but everything went pretty smooth.

I now have the tiniest basement in North America!

Well, I think to make this complete, you should PM an admin and have them change your name from "Hoosierguy" to "Squirreldude".

Now, for your next project, put a 36" pipe down there with a storage rack and some pulleys... you'll be able to store EVERYTHING... run power to it so its run by a hydraulic winch!!! oooohhhh that'd be awesome!

Wow, what a unique solution to a common problem. What's the temp like in the ground?

I am still not convinced. Looks good, looks like it could work. But what is the temperature in the bottom of that hole? You don't have a hygrometer or thermometer in there so how can you be sure your cigars are not still at 80 degrees?

Just put a toxic poison sticker on it and it will get left alone.

The heat is slowly getting pulled out of the tube. I've had a thermometer in the bottom for the past 1.5 hours. Last time I checked it was 68*. I'll run and check it now....

It is now 66* in the bottom and 80 at the surface. I expect it will eventually get to cellar temps of about 57* at the floor of the tube.

Well in that case, congrats!

Just be sure you mark your hole somewhere, I can see the winter dumping 2 feet of snow on that and making you wonder where your cigars are.

Again, the cigars will be kept in air tight cigar caddys with rh beads. The tube is just for the temps. When the weather cools, I'll move them inside.
Winter in the bottom of that pipe will be pretty darn cold!

The tube is about 5' from my house. There is no way that I can loose track of it.

I've been carefully considering how to install a lock without compromising water tightness. i think I have a good solution and will post picture later today or tomorrow.
I'm still waiting for the UPS man to deliver my cigs!
