Default Sam Adams Chocolate Bock

I have never had it and it is on the shelves at a local beer store. A buddy bought a bottle(at $60.00 a bottle) and we are gonna have it this Saturday. Has anyone tried it and is it worth the money and the hype? I am looking foward to trying it.

Not at that price. $60 is better spent on good cigars.

Can't think of any beer I would spend $60 a bottle for.

And I love Sam Adams. $60 is just too much for a novelty beer. I'd like to hear how it is though.

If I remember correctly, this is a sipping beer, much like a good whiskey, and not made to guzzle. Supposed to be a good drink. Never seen it on shelves, though I've looked for it for a couple years in different states.

Beergeek.biz has it for $18 in 750ml size. BUT, nobody ships to Alabama. We are too controlled by the ABC boards.

The price point for the SA Chocolate Bock is between $14.99 and $18.99. For that price, it is WELL worth it. This beer does not disappoint. If you find it, buy it, just not for $60...

I have never had the Sam Adams.

But these are two Chocolate beers that are well worth the effort to find.

Ommegang Chocolate Indulgence.

Brooklyn Black Chocolate Stout

There's plenty of beers that go for that kind of money. Hell, even SA has the Utopia, which goes for >$100/bottle. I agree that it's an insane price for SA Chocolate Bock, though.

Most people would say that spending >$100 on a cigar is insane, too, but there's people here that do it. It's simply a different market.

Your buddy got RIPPED the MSRP for a bottle of Chocolate Bock is $15 if I recall correctly. I'll check that the next time I'm at work, but I'm pretty sure that's right.

It is an AWESOME beer. It's very chocolate-y and creamy/vanilla-y. Plus, it's a Bock so the alcohol content is a bit higher than other SA beers. I still have a bottle from the last release in 2006 that I haven't opened yet.

FINALLY ran down a bottle at Quantico. Price was $12.99. Just cracker her open, and I now wish I had gotten more. Very good Bock, but similar in profile to Brooklin's version. Pairing with a Tabacos Baez and they complement each other extremely well. This is a very nice Sunday treat.

Somebody got ripped off! I just bought a bottle of SA Chocolate Bock for $14.99 and I thought that might be too expensive! I have not tasted any yet, but I have not been disappointed with the SA specialty beers, even the Utopias for which I paid $90 a bottle 3 years ago. I even still have 2 bottles of SA Triple Bock from 1995 and 1996! The Triple Bock was priced at about $6 a bottle (small nip bottle) back then!
Again, $60 for the Chocolate Bock, way too much! In fact, I would probably report the store that sold it for price gouging!

MSRP for Chocolate Bock is $14.99.

You're lucky to have a bottle of Utopias! Great stuff . . . I wish I had a bottle. MSRP for the 2007 release of Utopias was $150.00/bottle. On e-bay they're selling for $400/bottle or so.

Actually 8 or 10 of us pitched in and bought the Utopias for a tasting, each getting a few ounces in a snifter. It was good! I'm glad I got to taste it, but I wouldn't spend that much for a bottle myself.
As for the Chocolate Bock, if it is as good as I've heard, I would probably buy more at $14.99. I pay that for a bottle of wine, and I like beer more than I do wine!
