HEY BIG Dummy
Note to self; Table Saw vs thumb, table saw wins
Spent the afternoon getting 8 stitches in my thumb at the urgent care facility. Nothing major, no permanent damage but dang it hurts. Got some antibiotics and a few happy pills for the pain. Going to smoke a cigar and take a pill. Chas |

Two words: Push Stick
My Dad was a butcher for years and he's one of the few of his generation that never lost fingers when not paying attention. Guess that piece is gonna get stained red, huh? Hope you heal fast and well, C.

Just going to make things a tad slower for a day or so. I told the doctor to stitch um up tight since I will be going home to go back in the shop to work. She said then wait till bed time to take the pills . Chas |

Don't push yourself too hard, Chuck, the shelves aren't worth it.
Here's to a quick recovery, my friend. |

I second the push sticks. Even those new table saws that say they turn off when flesh makes contact don't convince me they work. You mean I have to cut part of my thumb before it turns off??
Get well soon. |

Re: HEY BIG Dummy
I know your pain brother. I was using a sliding compound mitre saw a couple of years ago, finished a cut and let go of the saw, then is slid forward and fell of the table. Like an idiot, I go to grab it and the blade shatters the guard and cuts my wrist, severing a tendon and making it look like I tried to off myself. A couple of weeks on percaset and a couple of month of rehab and I am good as new. Lucky as hell that I still have both hands.
Hope you heel quick. (no pun intended with the thumbs up) |

Re: HEY BIG Dummy
Well I have sympathy for you - having been there myself. After 40+ years you get caught every now and then. Never been touched by my table saw (custom made push sticks ) - but have been up close and personal with the nail gun, circular saw, 4 1/2" grinder and 1/2" drill.
And in case anyone is wondering - shooting yourself with a nail gun gets you to the head of the line in the emergency room with a free pass directly to surgery - Ron |

Re: HEY BIG Dummy
I almost know how you feel. I sliced my thumb open the other day at work with my knife. I tend to keep my pocket knives razor sharp, but a table saw now thats scary.
