I had the Cohiba Siglo 4 Alt. It was pretty darn good. For $1.50, it is hard to pass up.

Even some of their sales staff acknowledge the less than stellar make-up of these stogies.

Some are Dog Rockets, others are wonderful! Cohiba Sig IV and Bolivar Corona (I believe they are the same cigar w/ different packaging) are wonderful. I believe all of the Cuban Alts are Nicaraguan.

I liked the regular alternatives as a good yard 'gar especially for the price. They're not great but the ones i've had didnt taste bad either.

They do have some called JR Edition Limitada alternatives, with a darker maduro wrapper which I thought might be good too. I was so wrong, They were just bad. Luckily, I was able to find a fellow gorilla to take them off my hands.

I would give the regular alternatives a try. If you don't like them, you're not out much $$

Yes and Yes.

you asked if they are smokeable. Yes.

Are they comparable to what they are marketed as? No - that is why they are an ALTERNATIVE!

You are correct in that I phrased the second part of the question wrong. A White Owl is smokeable but why would anyone.

I have tried a number of them over the years and all of them have been terrible. From bad construction to bad taste. Keep away.

The CAO Gold Maduro alternate is a surprisingly decent stick for $1.50. Do not try the Monte #2 or the 858 alternates.

I've had the Monte #2 alts and while they were smokeable they weren't particularly good. But what can you expect for $2.00? You get a $2 cigar. I'll take them fishing and smoke them for something to do, to give away, or trash, and I don't mind.

The edicion limitada's are decent. Most of the time they turn too crap alittle past halfway. The Rocky Patel Edge Maduros are fairly close. Besides that......Not good.

Bought HdM alts a while back, found them to be harsh and not that good. Left them alone for over a year and well, smoked a few lately and all I can tell you is that they are WAY more enjoyable than CAO Anni Cameroon I smoked last week.
