Interesting cigar history
This was posted today at Blind Man's Puff...interesting.
Joya de Nicaragua has announced a new line extension of their Clásico brand, called Clásico Medio Siglo. They are also updating the look of the original Clásico line. The story of the Clásico goes that in 1970, President Somoza of Nicaragua met President Nixon of the United States for dinner at the White House. Somoza was unaware that his country was making handrolled cigars. After the customary official dinner, Nixon had invited Somoza to retire to the Green Room, where - also as was customary - he invited the Nicaraguan to enjoy brandy and cigars with him. Nixon offered a box - and Somoza was astounded to see it was emblazoned with the brand Nicaragua Cigar Company. He was even more astounded when a smiling Nixon told him it was the official cigar of the White House. He enjoyed them so much that by the time his plane landed back home at Managua Airport, he already had a plan to be part of Nicaraguas burgeoning cigar industry.

Re: Interesting cigar history
Do we still have an official cigar of the White House? Or even unofficial? How long has that honor been around and what other cigars have been afforded that distinction?
Interesting topic.

Re: Interesting cigar history
On a similar note, here is a good article on wines in the White House.
I wonder what Biden is serving for wines or how well stocked the White House wine cellar is? Both Trump and Biden do not drink, but Trump has experience in the hospitality industry. A quick look I could not tell if Biden kept the same staff that would handle the wine cellar or not. https://www.wsj.com/articles/preside...se-11610168400

Re: Interesting cigar history
I have a cigar from the last Bush inauguration. A Churchill. It has a band with the presidential seal on it.
No other marks. I hear Hunter Biden is in charge of the wine now... |
