A Christmas Find
So - my Grandfather passed away back in September. I had gotten his old humidor (mason jar style - and packed with Dutchmasters )...but I had never found his pipes.
Until this morning while setting up my grandmother's new TV. ^1-6^ ^7-14^ Pretty cool. I'm going to start working towards restoring some of these. I'll include some better detailed pictures in my next post. Oh - and here's myself, my father, and my grand father about 2 years ago having a cigar on the back porch |

Re: A Christmas Find
^Pipes 1-3 (Bowls)^ ^Pipes 4-6 (Bowls)^ ^Pipes 7-9 (Bowls)^ ^Pipes 10-12 (Bowls)^ ^Pipes 13 and 14 (Bowls)^ I want to restore the 1st and 4th pipes for me quickly - and my father has requested pipe #12 for himself. Do any of these pipes look like something outstanding to anyone? I'm going to start doing my own research - but if anything jumps out at you just let me know! So cool! I lost my grandfather recently and know what you have been going through. It is great that you have these pipes to remember him by. Looks like you have a great meaningful collection!

1 and 4 look light they might be Custombilts or Tracy Mincers. I'm not a collector of such, but some special few are worth a fair amount.

Re: A Christmas Find
thats a nice set of pipes. #12 should shine up great for your dad. 5 should shine up nice. 9 looks absolutely pristine
I see some markings on #5. I cant read them though. 9 looks a lot like my great grandfathers old pipe |

Re: A Christmas Find
Wow, this made me remember of my grandfather. He once had a collection too. But my grandmother was not able to preserve those.

Re: A Christmas Find
#9 is a basket pipe, albeit a very good looking one
#5 the yorkshire briar thing I googled it and I saw a sears ad for them, but other than that they seem to be like basket pipes as far as selling prices. IDK what your intentions were for them. #12 that your dad claimed seems to me to be the the best one to display right off hand, alog with maybe the leather wrapped ones |

Re: A Christmas Find
#10 and 11 look like great pipes. I've been thinking recently about getting into pipe smoking. the B&M by my house has a great selection of tobacco.

Any that I keep will be kept in a pipe rack and used for smoking sometimes. My grandfather wasn't a high-end guy. I'd imagine most of these were relatively cheap. He rode stuff hard and put it away wet |
