Who here knows about flashlights?
My wife wants a large heavy flashlight she can take with her to walk the dog. My experience with MAG has not always been favorable, however, I do not need to fork out $200+ for a surefire either. What can I get in the $60 range. I would like LED and rechargeable, if possible.

Re: Who here knows about flashlights?
Take a look at the 4sevens lights, they are all VERY reasonably priced good flashlights. I have an AA2 (not large by any means, takes AA batteries) and cost ~$55-$60.
Look for something around 200 lumens. That will be plenty good enough. EDIT other good light manufactures are Jetbeam and Fenix. EDIT again the strobe feature the Quark lights have is quite a defense as well. At 207 lumens you will certainly be blinded. If that is a concern.

Even though your experiences with Maglite have not always been favorable, I would still give the newer ones a look. Ive had mine for well over a decade and they still work great, plus they are easier to carry around and less conspicuous then a baseball bat... just saying.

Quark looks badass, but I think her thoughts on a mag light is that it could be used as a beating stick if needed. I do want something 200+lumens, so that eliminates Mag.

I wouldn't go that route though. If that gets taken away from her that won't be a good day. Strobe and run is probably a better route. Or carry a firearm, tazer, pepper spray, whatever your state allows.

Re: Who here knows about flashlights?
I've never had a bad experience with a Maglite. I own the 6 D-Cell Version as well as several Mini Mags and I've never seen a light as rugged and dependable.
The 6 D-Cell version is about the length of a billy club and could easily be used as such, considering the weight. It's bright enough to cut a beam clear across a 200 yard wide pasture and light up whatever it is you might be looking at... As for my opinion on this matter, you're splitting hairs "This light vs. That" If it's about protection... Buy her a big heavy D-Cell Mag and a featherweight hammerless S&W .38 Special Just my |
