I have given non-smokers great sticks only to see them let it burn out after the first third and then say well I was done anyway. I can't give them something too cheap or they get upset. I think non-smokers like the idea of smoking a good cigar better than the act of smoking a good cigar!

I'll second that as well! I have also found that sometimes people look at the bands and if it is fancy then it must be expensive

MOW Virtue is the perfect non-smoker give out stick IMO. The band is pretty and they are not too strong for a non-smoker. I personally don't care for them so it is perfect!

Brilliant! It's a nice, flavorful mild smoke too.

I agree with this completely. I bought an Opus X a few months ago and my father (who doesn't regularly smoke by the way) asked me what was good. I told him how good the Opus was supposed to be (I have never smoked one and heard they were best with age so I was going to let it rest a year). Anyways I let him have it and he put it out about a third in. At that point I said I am going to pick the other persons cigars unless they are a smoker and see something they like. Nothing really off limits except for the Behike I picked up in Canada during my wedding.

If I allow someone into my house, they can have any cigar they want. My friends are way more important than my cigars.

Agreed 100%!

Funny thing is that generally what I smoke and what those friends smoke is so far apart, I actually keep a few of what they like on hand so they have something to grab! Good example, best friend likes Hoyo Dark Knight #1's. I have a mostly full box of #1's and #2's in my cooler that I'm just "aging"

I will give out anything that I have to a knowledgable smoker that will appreciate it. Even if I haven't tried it yet I will give it as long as I have more of it. I am a pretty generous individual and love spreading some cigar love around as long as it is appreciated. I would hate to hand out an LP9 or T-52 to someone who is newer into cigars because I would fear it wouldn't be appreciated by the novice smoker.

Over nearly 40 years of smoking I've probably given away as many cigars as I've smoked, and many of those have been prized sticks. But I'll choose what to give to each individual, so that each person receives something I know they'll enjoy, and a truly great stick isn't mismatched with the smoker.

It's only happened a few times, but I have made mistakes where I gave someone a cigar that I valued highly and he stamped it out after a few puffs without regard to the cigar itself nor my feelings.

Not recently, though.

For me it depends on who it is, I have friends that I know that are avid cigar guys/gals that they can take what they like cause I know they will apreciate what they are going to smoke. There are others that I pick for. I also have a small singles draw that I have like limited that may eventually get smoked but only by me.

It's pretty much up to how you do it--whatever works for you and makes you comfortable. I usually smoke alone, but the people I sometimes smoke with do not know enough about all the various brands, etc. to be able to select a cigar from my stash, so I just pick for all of us, and just about everything is fair game.

Default Re: What to save? What to give?

I always keep my collection split into two piles - things I purchased, and things given to me. If it's a gifted stick, then its off limits. Anything I picked up is open season, sort of...

It's a matter of who is over. If you're a regular smoker who appreciates a good cigar, nothing is off limits. I don't even have to know you well, just as long as I know you appreciate a cigar. I'll be happy to pick something nice out for you or you're welcome to browse through yourself.

But if you're like one guy I know who smokes a robusto in 20 minutes and thinks grape flavored blunts are perfectly acceptable smokes, well then, I'll pick something out for you that's a little more fitting with your ability to enjoy it. That allows me to stretch my limited resources out and share more premium smokes with people that will really enjoy them (or ruin new folks, brehahaha).

But if you were the guy who likes grape blunts, powersmokes a cigar right into the ground, etc, and you came up to me and said "man, I've really been wanting to try an opus" (and you weren't fishing), I would be happy to share it with you, even though I know you wouldn't taste it anymore than a yardgar, because in that moment, its more than the leaf, and I've given you something that blessed you. Who am I to dictate how that enjoyment has to be felt?
