Adult Softball
Do we have any players here?
I am in my second year playing. I played all 4 season last year, Summer/Spring, Fall, Holiday and Winter! Loved them all I am running a coed for the first time. Some how I always get roped into running the team. Team name has always been, The Sons of Pitches |

Playing for my command, we are 4-0 right now. It's a lot more fun than I had expected and is a team builder at work. Now if I could only get out of my hitting slump

I tried to play with co-workers in a tourney against other local companies. I had never ever played and couldn't hang. Some were seasoned softball league players.
It was slow pitch softball and my batting was weak. I had the bad habit of getting anxious seeing the ball hang in the air so long, I would swing too early. I had fun trying out though and would like to practice and try again next year. |

Re: Adult Softball
Hitting was the hardest adjustment for me. I was 8 for 9, the last two games I have gone 0 for 4 with 3 walks.
I was on a hitting streak.. now, I fear I am in the slump. This coed team.. we are 0-5 with a 9 game regular season.. I say we are practicing for the playoffs. All teams make the playoffs. That is when we will click and take it ALL!! |

Played for about 12 years, but gave it up 5 years ago. 10 years was with a mens league with some solid hitters. I agree with Alan, that high-hanging pitch is my downfall - I couldn't wait to hit it. The last 2 years was coed with folks here at work. It was most for funsies and got me out of the house on Sunday afternoons. Funny how having kids helps fill your days back up. I play basketball at lunch on Tuesdays now for about an hour. Several games of full court is all the knee-pounding exercise I can stand. I'm lucky to make it to 10 p.m. on Tuesday nights before I fall out.

MWR GTMO has a ton of sports leagues available. I played Kickball when I first got here. Just stayed on the team (Juice Box) for the softball season. Unfortunately in the beginning of the season I messed myself up on a dive and had to sit out. I am still on the team and I think the next season is going to start next month.

I have been playing for the last 10 years. I am on two leagues in the summer and two during the fall. I mostly play first, second and left center. I am just happy to be out playing so I will play anywhere. So far, one league we are 4-1 and the other one we are 2-2. Got a double header tomorrow night.

Re: Adult Softball
I play on an adult baseball, woodbat, league. Some of them play softball and will call me when they need an extra guy.

Re: Adult Softball
I gave up playing full time three seasons ago, but will fill in on a buddy's team from time to time if he's in a bind. Played on two highly competitive traveling teams (not at the same time; in different points in my life) and played in several national tournaments. Used to love it, but got burnt out on it. That, and when ASA kept changing their bat guidelines every year it seemed to make your season old bat, "illegal", it got stupidly expensive replacing now worthless equipment.

Re: Adult Softball
Our city has a wooden bat league, but it's insanely expensive. $450 for ten games, per player. Ouch. I played one year because I missed it so much, but I can't justify paying $45 a game.

Re: Adult Softball
The umpires/fields better be amazing.
I pay just under 200 for a 17 game season + playoffs.

One league is $450 for like 10 weeks and playoffs and my other league is $750 per team for like 12 weeks and playoffs. We tend to get sponsors for our teams so we play for free.

Re: Adult Softball
The field isn't bad by any stretch, but it's far from a cathedral. When the closest competition is over an hour away, I guess you can name your own price. People pay it (or more specifically teams get sponsors who pay the fees) so it's maintainable. Huge cash cow for the city's parks & recreation department.
