Default Getting sick from cigars.

So I've had my share of feeling light headed and feeling like fainting sometimes when I smoke a strong cigar...I hate it, but sometimes it happens. I've never got to a point to where I felt like I was going to throw up. Though, sometimes I wish I would just to get over the sickness feeling.

Last night, my brother and I went to a cigar event at a casino that has a cigar lounge and we each smoked 2 cigars in a respectable amount of time. We didn't chain smoke them and we took our time. We both smoked an HC Robusto (the event cigar) and then smoked something different afterward. I smoked an Ambos Mundos, which was very nice I may add, and my brother had a Tatuaje Havana VI. We both know how strong Tats can be sometimes but my brother said his wasn't that bad at all. He finished his cigar after I got done with mine and then we left to go home. We probably spent another 15 minutes before we actually left because we stopped into the cigar lounge to pick up some humipacks. Probably about 20-30 minutes after having the last cigar, we were driving and out of no where my brother (who was driving) suddenly didn't feel so well. He said he never felt light headed or anything from the cigars he smoked. He said that his hands instantly felt numb and ended up puking before he was able to pull over. Unfortunately spraying the driver side of the dash and steering wheel with a wonderful amount of icky stuff. Especially in a new car he just got an Audi A3.

So we finally get pulled over and I'm yelling, get out of the car now. And I rushed out (he thought I was going to puke cuz of him puking) but I was more worried about the interior of his car. He had no towels or anything in his car. But he did have aftermarket seat covers on the front seats just to keep the original seats cleaner so I pulled those off and used those to clean up what I could and found a sweatshirt in the back seat to use and he took his shirt off and used that. A State Patrol car pulled up and we told them what happened and they couldn't help much since they had no towels or anything. For the most part we cleaned up what we could and he headed straight home after dropping me off and finished cleaning. It was a crap load of projectile but we got most of it up and luckily he had the nice rubber floor mats that caught a lot of it that went on the floor. So the carpet was safe. The dash and steering wheel was fine, my only concern was the air vents for the AC/heat.

So yeah....he must have gotten sick from either one of the cigars he had. We both smoked the same cigar first and I felt fine from it and he said he did too. We both had dinner before the event as well. He got sick before and threw up another time (about a month ago) but he saw that one coming when he felt light headed already and what not. Luckily that time was outside out of view when that happened. Last night's incident just kind of happened out of nowhere since he felt fine after smoking the cigar.

Sorry for the long story.

So has anyone else had a surprise sickness from smoking a cigar?

My brother and I smoke Tats every so often since we both have a box or 2 in our own humidors, so it's not like anything new to us. And we've both smoked way stronger cigars before and came out feeling fine or a little buzzed but nowhere close to getting sick.

Any thoughts or similar situations?

I know you can get sick from too much nicotene but I have never thrown up.
I ussualy have cream soda or something with sugar to help counteract the sick feeling.
One time I started to feel sick and just ate some sugar, a few minutes later I was fine.
The only time I ever smoked an Opus X the room was spinning for about 20 minutes, that was the worst I ever experienced. I have only felt more than a small buzz 3 times from smoking cigars. As long as I eat first I seem to be fine.

That was a long disgusting story you posted, and it was his car and his vomit so I woulda been like have fun with that! Haha.

haha, sorry about it sounding so gross, but I had to share.

we both had a feel meal before the cigar event and we both had some regular cokes so we can get some sugar in us though we were feeling just fine.

Maybe it wasn't the cigar?

Plus he's my brother, I had to help him. Plus it's a new car. I wanted to get it cleaned ASAP since he had crap all over himself.

I was thinking that...but he had a huge club sandwich before the event and I couldn't figure what in the sandwich would make him sick. It's not like he had undercooked meat or something. I just think the nicotine caught up to him.

was the event inside? Was there a good amount of people? He probably got more nicotine in his system then he realized.

Had this happen once at a cigar event. Smoked last years skull and bones, a viaje exclusivo, and last years VOR back to back to back. The shop was packed and I'm sure I picked up a lot of second hand smoke as well. Got home and was taking the dog out for a walk and felt fine and just threw up. Never felt sick at all, it just spontaneously happened and I was fine again. Kept walking the dog like nothing happened and hoped no one saw it.

Yeah, it was inside. The Casino has a cigar lounge but they didn't hold the event in there. They did the event in a bigger space where the night club is. There was a fair amount of people but not too smokey at all. It's been way more crowded other times they did events in there for cigars and came out feeling fine. Plus this happened like 20-30 minutes after he finished the cigar and he looked fine and felt fine. Sometimes I can tell if he's feeling crappy, I can see it in his face sometimes. But he looked just fine. I think it just snuck up on him.

When I first started smoking cigars, I would get stomach aches and chills all the time. Now this could have been the nicotine or the fact that I smoked nasty dog rockets because I was broke. Now I can smoke those strong ones without any effects. My body is used to them. And I don't smoke crappy sticks anymore.

So you never felt light headed or anything? Sounds like what happened to my brother. The other time he got sick and threw up from a cigar he felt light headed and stuff first. So that's a different story, but at least he had some sort of warning to get outside.

If the lettuce or tomato wasn't washed properly, they could have been contaminated with E. Coli.

Keep sugar with you if you are prone to this. Nicotine is a stimulant that works with your blood sugar burning it off. If the balance between the sugar and the nicotine is okay, it won't build up. If your sugar gets too low, nicotine will build up and make you overdose. A quick sugar fix (sugar cube, candy, soda, etc.) will usually fix the spins.

Not to mention spoiled bacon or deli meats. Bad mayo perhaps.

Must be the cigars.

Was there any drinking (alcohol) involved?

If not, I'm thinking his system was already weak before you started with the cigars!

Never had this happen to me. Of course, I am always drinking sweet tea or a Dr Pepper when I smoke something full-flavored.

I agree about the food. Could have been something rank in there.
